Has anybody here added a sunroof or moonroof to their 2014-2018 double cab? I know it’s an option in higher trim crewmax models. I tried searching and I’m not finding any information here about adding it to a double cab? Has anybody explored this option or followed through? The double cab has a corrugated roof, which could make it difficult unless somebody makes an aftermarket adapter piece to accommodate for that.

    Thanks in advance.

    I wouldn't even bother.

Way too much to go wrong. If you did find someone with the skills it would be ridiculously expensive.

The chances of finding someone with the know how and the right parts to make this happen is very low.

Be better off selling and buying one with a sunroof.

Installing a sunroof isn't difficult as long as you know what you're cutting into. I've installed them in many vehicles prior to this one. :)

Longer list than the wife needs to know about....
In my experience the aftermarket sun roofs are never of very good quality. CR Lawrence is crap in my opinion.
If it didn't come with one from the factory then it isn't sealed and provisioned with the necessary drains to minimize the leak potential.
All sunroofs leak eventually but the factory units are of a better quality and actually thought out (typically).

Dude, I created an account just to answer this question (been reading tons of posts on here for a little while now).
I’ve done this to my ‘16 DC and really want to pass on this info so you can enjoy it too.

They don’t make this an option for the DCs because the roof support bar runs right where the moonroof would go - & it would require cutting it - a no-no as far as Toyota is concerned (imagine the liability). You can get one on Crewmax cause the roof is longer, so the support bar (which I believe is ~6” wide...don’t quote me) is further back & away from where moonroof would go.
The guy who did mine (in Fairfax, VA) has done tons of them. He explained all this to me. He didn’t have to remove or cut out the entirety of the support bar, but he did have to cut some of it out to fit the moonroof - couple inches or so. So it’s still there, but less of it is there, which weakens it. I don’t plan on rolling my Tundra over on the roof, though, so I’ll take my chances & enjoy the moonroof. He moved the dome light back farther to fit moonroof (it’s now approx above where the back seat legroom is - I don’t even remember how far forward it was before - but it’s well within reach of driver).

I got a Webasto 790 moonroof - the biggest one that fits the DC (2 years ago anyway - maybe they have another one now). GET A WEBASTO MOONROOF if you’re gonna get one. Here’s mine:
    https://www.webasto.com/us/markets-...ofs/our-sunroofs/full-feature-deluxe-inbuilt/

They’re top of the line - not cheap - but SO worth it. I had a Camry for 11 years before my Tundra & it had a moonroof. After that car, I knew whatever I got next had to have a moonroof - I love them. Wanted the longer bed, thus got a DC. I wasn’t happy when I found out moonroof wasn’t an option for DCs.

Did some research - learned about these moonroofs. Found an installer in my area (Webasto has a directory of installers on their website) and thoroughly looked into the installer before I took it to him. He had RAVE reviews online. The nearby car dealerships even take their vehicles to him to get them installed. Spoke with him over the phone a couple times beforehand which pretty much helped me get over my fears (c’mon - you’re cutting a hole in your roof & we’ve all heard bad stories of leaky after-market moonroofs). Dude knew what he was doing, was really down to earth, answered every question ... awesome experience beginning to end & he stood by his work.

He had my truck for 1 day. I dropped it off in the morning, he finished it that day, I picked it up in the evening the next day (needed 24 hrs to cure before it could be in the weather).

That was almost 2 years ago and I haven’t had a single problem with it. Not a single drop in the cabin. Single-digit temps in winter, 100+ degrees in summer - no problems. It drains to the outside no prob (there are, in fact, drain lines for it). Worked every time I’ve pushed the button. Auto-closes for you when you turn off engine in case you forget to close it (if you happen to want to leave it open, just push the button when it begins to close & it’ll stay open. Me, personally, I don’t want to find bird crap on my front seat so I close it every time no matter how hot it is outside).

$1250 installed. Worth every cent, and next DC I get (many years from now) will have a Webasto installed as well.

My one gripe - one and only - is I’d like it if the tilt function tilted up a tad more. I rarely ever use it so it doesn’t really bother me. I think I’ll ask my installer if that’s something that can be adjusted. If it can’t be - I don’t care - love it & will get one for next DC.

I can post pics later if you want to see.
Let me know how it goes if you get one! God bless you bro.

    Very nice!!

I spent many summers on my grandparents farm in Chantilly hours from home. They are long gone but I remember going to Fairfax as a kid with them. Good memories!

$1250 installed seems like a great price considering the size and being unavailable otherwise.

It’s very clean up close. I’m picky bout stuff - a bit of a perfectionist - and I have no issues at all with how it looks. I’ll post some more pics later today.

Man, are there farms in Chantilly anymore?! :) I’ve been here about 18 years and the area has changed SO much. DC metro area is constantly growing & growing. Every time I turn around another housing or commercial development is going up, and more woods cleared out. Personally I don’t like that cause I love nature, outdoor scenery, hunting, etc.
It’s a fantastic area for jobs - but I’m about done with the area. Grateful for the opportunities though.

Funny you say that. They had cattle, a xMas tree farm, neighbors had buffalo, it was amazing. They held their ground and didn't sell the property despite numerous generous offers. My grandmother passed, then my step grandfather. His children quickly sold everything to the developers. I'm sure they are millionaires now.

Not that I'm planning on a moonroof install, but that is a extremely Clean install, looks factory from the inside

Is this still holding up? I'm up in Wisconsin and had no idea this was a thing, always hear horror stories about aftermarket moon roofs.

I purchased my crewmax without a roof sr5 actually couldn't seem to justify an extra 15 grand or so for a limited or the other top platforms. Had mine installed buy a business in Atlanta Jan 2018 for 1200.00. Guys were awesome. They started around 8am and by 5pm I was on the road back home. Has the drains where factory ones would go. Haven't had any issues.20180103_074613.jpg 20180103_165829.jpg 20180103_165823.jpg

A OEM moon/sunroof is bad enough, can't imagine aftermarket.
