I’m about to install a amp and subwoofers in my 2021 Tundra and remove the stock one. My question is the current door speakers that are in the truck , are they hooked up to the amp that is installed in the truck? And when I disconnect the subwoofer from this amp will that amp give more power to the door speakers??

One of the seemingly few benefits of getting old is that even the stock audio systems sound pretty good!

It seems like everyone bitches about the JBL stock systems, I have one and am pretty pleased with it. I don't need to feel my music, I just listen to it. :headbang:

No. Disconnecting the sub will not allocate more power to the doors. That is not how an amp functions when it comes to high and low channel outputs.

I happen to like the system to but for me personally it is not loud at all. If people are bitching then there is a reason. I’m just looking to improve on what I have.

Not sure what stock system you have but its a common issue discussed on these forums. On the Tundra JBL system there is a feature that rolls the bass off at louder volumes; the speakers are substandard quality for a "premium" system.

I have the JBL premium audio system the one that comes with the 1794. The subwoofer that comes with it is non existent. There is no bass really and when I turn the volume up to 60 it isn’t loud at all . I was expecting more

The system is mediocre at best. The systems internal processor automatically removes bass as you increase volume. You’re going to need to get a digital sound processor, like a Rockford DSR1 in order to remove the JBLs crappy processing unless you replace the entire system, ie, headunit, amps, highs, subs, etc.

You’ll end up replacing all 4 door speakers, choosing a single or dual subs & enclosure….(disabling the dash set tweets)
adding a 5 channel amp and RF Mastero dsr1.
Then you will have both volume & clean sound

So like stated above disconnection of the sub will not change power/wattage to your doors. I would change the amp completely find yourself a good 5 Chan amplifier and yes you will need a dsr1 and mastero harness for the tundra. I would look to james at tech12volt to get you squared away with a replacement system. In installed one two days ago in a new lunar pro7DCA03B5-F738-4D1A-BDAD-B3393DD658C3.jpg

I went to a local shop and the owner wants to put 2 JL Audio 10s 10TW3 in the custom stealth box behind my seats. He is giving me a JL audio 600 watt one channel amp to push the box. He suggested to start with that and he is going to play around with stock speakers and the factory amp to make it sound better. I asked him about a 5 channel amp and he said you don’t want to hook up a 5 channel amp to push the stock door speakers. The amp would be to powerful for the stock speakers to handle. I’m already over 2 grand into it. Debating if I should throw down and spend another grand to change door speakers and amp ??

A complete system from james including door speakers will be less then 2k FYI and you will not need to cut one wire in the truck. It can be swapped back to factory for resale in about 2 hours.

There is nothing he can do to “mess” with the stock speakers and amp. $2k for just subs and an amp is high as giraffe nuts.

Actually there are all kind of things he can “mess” with but none of them will be good.

Aside from fooling with the bass and treble adjustments on the radio. There isn’t anything that is user adjustable on the amp. There are no gain, crossover, or any other adjustments that can be made.

I’m trying to give you the best advice for your truck. Do yourself a favor and do some more research. I have seen many stealth boxes on this forum for sale because people have complaints about them and half ass’ng a stereo only takes you down a path of unhappiness and breaking the wallet out to try and fix it. There are members here that design amazing systems themselves for their truck they spend thousands doing it right and that is awesome but you are trying to get the most bang for your buck so
Do yourself a favor and email james. Tell him you are a tundra member and listen to the advice he gives you.

I don't have anything to add. I strongly concur with Mafia and Dan. If you keep your head unit, temper your expectations. I am content with mine but you are limited in adjustments and it is a constraint to a good sound system. If you replace it the trade off is losing some control of vehicle settings, not sure how many the Maestro can reclaim. I think you'll loose the ability to change some chime settings etc, not sure about wifi or anything else.

The Maestro restores all controls. I lost not a single oem vehicle setting when I put in an aftermarket headunit.
