20210526_192532.jpg 20210526_200216.jpg Going to my off grid quiet place Friday morning. Staying longer than originally planned so went to my storage unit and grabbed my Coleman Jenny Lake 13'X9' cabin tent. There is a Jenny Lake. Google Moffat Road in CO. You don't need a RTT if you have your own place to camp. Naturally Manny spotted a box. Had some 2001 Planet of the Ape figures. NIB. There was another box in the box that had a memento from my Jarhead days from boot camp. I was Series Honorman. 1978. #1 out of 211. Platoon 1072. My off grid piece of Colorado paradise lot # is 1072. The attached pic is the Guide armband representing my platoon that I earned. My platoon kicked ass. Only one dropped out. We had guys from the hicks and from places like the streets of Gary, Indiana. It's weird, my older sister texted me last night. She's sending me some stuff that my 96 year old mom saved. Apparently my dress blues is part of that. The last time I wore them was in 1984 at the Marine Corps Ball at MCAS Iwakuni. Fighter jet base. F4 Phantoms and A4 Skyhawks. One of the rare times you can commiserate with Marine Officer pilots wearing dress "Whites" and get somewhat ripped. I've mentioned here recently about my older brother who was part of a 4 man fire team in Vietnam. Was 18 when he got to "in country" there fighting marxist communists. Hell on earth for him at that age and never talks much about "what he saw and did". Now the the nitty gritty stuff.........My dad was a Marine Corps aviator. He flew his F4U Corsair in China when the marxist communist's were chasing out Chiang Kai-shek and the freedom loving folks to Taiwan, which was known as Formosa for awhile until the Japanese took it over. What's a bit unusual there were no Marine Corps markings at all on his bird. My dad flew close air support sorties to help protect the folks fleeing the commies. I'll post a pic of my dad standing by his F4U in China with my still living 96 year old mom's name,, "Darling Darlene" painted on the nose. I'm close to finding a lot of his pics. 2 Bronze Stars and Distinguished Flying Service medals.. The 2nd Bronze Star in Korea after flying over 100 missions in a Sioux helicopter from 50 to 53. I forgot how many tours he had there.
Marxism and marxist based CRT has no place at all being introduced in the US military. No place. I just shake my head with what's going on lately. The Chinese and Russians are surely amused but I'm not. My dad risked his life again and again along with my older brother and other fellow servicemen and servicewomen fighting against that nonsense. My dad made it back otherwise I wouldn't be posting here now. I can't imagine what he'd think of things now. We need to realize the sacrifices this coming weekend for the ones who never came back. Gave it all. So many have sacrificed more. My 2 cents.

Yesterday I posted a pick of this indian artifact stone. I took it to the Ft Garland Museum and had "Pat" check it out. It is in fact a metate. Most likely Yuta (Ute) but there were several other tribes here in San Luis Vally.20210529_193035.jpg

I suggest you research the Battle of Glorietta Pass. A very important Civil War battle took place there south of Ft Garland. The New Mexico border is only 30+ miles south of here. The Confederates were stopped there. Their goal was to take the west clear to San Francisco. A small battle that had major implications at the time. Still, very few people have heard of it. 20210531_113643.jpg

I've acquired a lot of camping gear over the years but getting that WaterPORT tops them all. A must have, especially for those extended stays.

Finding the double sided metate with the mano was definitely a kuul rare find, but I saved these pics of a very rare scraper for last. Used for skinning the bison, elk, and deer that roamed around. One corner broke over the years but you can see native Indian made inclusions in the center/left in the first pic. Typical inclusions you see when chipping out an arrowhead or spear point. Kuul find as well. This scraper is quite old. Very old. Old as f++k old. A beautiful specimen.

Went to Aurora Reservoir early this morning before the Father's Day crowd hit. Let Manny swim a bit and drove to the east side. Water level a bit lower. Found two 50 cal rounds, a nice petrified wood piece, a Rapala scatter shad 07, and a nice Arbogast jitterbug. These topwater lures would cost me $20 locally.

I picked up a GSPSCN 25A/150 psi twin cylinder compressor on Prime Day. I had a single cylinder Viair on my shopping list but this compressor had a 4/5 rating after 3300+ reviews which is a decent sample size. Lots of 4 wheelers had good reviews so I jumped on it. I already had an Amazon $15 gift card loaded that I got from a Quality Magazine survey. I ended up paying only $27! I've tried it out already and seems to function properly. Decent duty cycle at 20 minutes on and 10 minutes off. 1 year warranty. 25A draw so you connect to the battery. 11ft cord. Came with the usual accessories. Chinese crapola but so is pretty much everything else nowadays. At $27.....a good deal....

Hit the Reservoir again this morning. Quite a nice day. After Manny got done tubing around we went to the east side again. Water level a bit lower than last Sunday. Found some more petrified wood. A real nice fist sized chunk of palm tree and some other smaller pieces of various species of wood. 20210627_131753.jpg 20210627_132236.jpg 20210627_132314.jpg

Can we get a field report on the new compressor? Inflate times, heat soak, etc.

Prolly won't have that info until I need it. Inflate times will vary, duty cycle is 20 on, 10 off. At $27, it's not a huge deal to field test it as I mentioned until I use it. I verified functionality, the rest will have to wait.

Wasn't all play this past weekend. I used my new Stihl MS 180 to trim off of lot more dead limbs on some of my pinion pine trees. As pinion's grow the lower limbs simply die but still on the tree. Basically a fire hazard too. I saw them off which opens "up" the tree, allowing native grass to grow underneath. Deer and elk can now get access to graze on the grass that will grow. I've done this wildlife habitat improvement over the years on prolly close to hundred pinions on my property. My 5+ acres prolly has 300+ pinions of various ages. My single old Juniper finally died. 3 ft at the base. Sucks. I ordered a tree corer to see how many growth rings there are to determine its age. Freaking old. Anyways, I'm always looking down to maybe find another arrowhead. No arrowhead this time but I did find two exquisite and quite old scrapers. The smaller one has obvious man made inclusions, the other larger scraper has no obvious inclusions but definitely a very ancient scraper. I've mentioned here before that archaeologists have found indian artifacts in the San Luis Valley dating back to 10,000 years ago. Kuul f'ing beans. Did I mention that I like George Strait while camping on my piece of Colorado paradise? 20210706_174129.jpg 20210706_174113.jpg 20210706_174049.jpg 20210706_174009.jpg 20210706_174206.jpg 20210706_174031.jpg GROUND TENT camping...IS.....THE....WAY

I'm sooo....not into RTT's. I actually thought about it but not my cup of tea. I can truly see their appeal and may be the ideal setup for many obviously, but IMHO why spend all that $$$'on a RTT and a rack to anchor it to? So much overkill unless you happen to camp a lot and don't want a base camp that you can leave during the day to explore a bit. You can take that $5K to $10K+ and buy a nice piece of off grid property with a paradise view that's yours! No more searching for a dispersed camping spot that has someone there already. Get a nice ground tent. I have three different sizes depending on how long I'm at my property. I prefer my anchor to be my piece of paradise, not a RTT. BTW.....a WaterPort is the bomb. Not ranting, just simple common sense to me. I was thinking about hitting Medano Pass this weekend. Good thing I didn't. Log jam. Talked to a couple of folks who had some quite nice Jeeper crawlers like @ColoradoTJ has in tow. They said that their normal base camp a couple miles north of the Sand Dune entrance at the southeastern foot of Mt Blanca was taken over. Everybody and their brother was hitting the pass. Amateurs getting stuck in the sand from the low side at the dunes. If you got past that nonsense, there was no dispersed camping spots left. Drunks, trash, loud music, illegal campfires, and fireworks. Fuck that....

Went up to Dakota "Hill" today. 10,925 ft. First time back up since last summer. Checked out my dog Halle's burial place. That sucked. Not many mushrooms yet. Only psychedelic hippie shrooms popping up. Came across a new spring that I must have walked past a hundred times. Lots of wildflowers going on. Lots of dirt bikes/side by sides all over the fucking place hauling ass with total disregard. I mentioned on another thread this morning about 1400 acres that has a Forest Service road running through it. There is a closed molybdenum mine with a mining office I pass by. There used to be a building housing a CAT and road grader and an adjacent building that held hundreds of core samples. After too much vandalism the owners, Nycon, raised everything so the only building left is the mining office. Not sure what happened to the heavy equipment. Nycon was prepping to reopen the mine about 15 years ago or so. Decided not to reopen. Molybdenum prices were going up to make it profitable again but the Chicoms flooded the world market again causing USA sourced molybdenum prices to crash. End of that story but harbingers of things to come. Empire, which is close by, is the largest active molybdenum mine in Colorado. In the USA actually. A thousand employees constantly worrying when shit hits their fan. Will be devastating for Gilpin and Clear Creek county when the inevitability happens. The Chicoms will see to that again because we let them for some stupid reason...... BTW...got any USA sourced Lithium? Meanwhile... all these folks racing around with their fancy side by sides had to get them there somehow. There were at least 20 various pickups with trailers parking on PRIVATE LAND where the raised buildings once stood. On top of the mine. I have a piece of paper in my wallet that's been there since 2005. Gives me permission to access that property.I guarantee that none of those asswhipes I saw had a written permit to camp, build fires, and or use that area as their own staging place. A big fuck you to Nycon. I just left a voicemail with Nycon but I think they simply gave up. I'm posting a pic of the lower and upper gates to the property. A pic of some of the trucks staged on the PRIVATE PROPERTY. I wanted drop down to my friend's property but too many crazies going up and down the FS trail to the property. Manny almost got run over by a couple ATV's. I'm fucking pissed off. Never remotely used to be this bad. You give folks an inch and they take a mile. When they are not using that area as their own side by side staging point, they turn it into a target range. They don't even pick up their fucking brass. Did I mention that the mining office is shot up? I've been in there. If I had a new to to me 4X4 I'd stop in and give them my make, model, and license plate# that they'd post up. I was raised to respect someone's property. Boy have things changed. I'm having a cold Coors Banquet now. Not helping. Still pissed. You even buy your own piece of paradise and these same type folks want to use it as their own. Fuck them. Still pissed. What's wrong with folks nowadays? Privileged asswhipes.
FYI...got a nice pic of some moose droppings and some wildflowers.

Forgot....did some detecting. Found some more 1870's era hand made square nails near an old silver mine on the north side of Dakota Hill down below the repeater tower.
