I have an ‘06 ext cab with 89k, unfortunately frame rust has caused my shop to not want to work on it anymore. I am wanting to sell. I will be open and honest with next buyer about issues. As to be expected truck runs great and body and interior are in really good condition for its age.

Any ideas on a starting price? Not sure how to discount for frame issue.

Dead stock with oem 16" starfish wheels. We'll see how long that lasts. :) Topper of unknown origin.
How many miles on this truck?

One approach is to start with a dealer quote for replacing the frame and deduct that from a reasonable selling prices for a truck with a new frame. Next is a DIY frame replacement that deducts the cost of the parts from a reasonable selling price. At the other end of the spectrum is the cost of DIY repairs to the frame to make it s useful farm truck or something. No matter how you slice it, if shops wont work on it, the selling price seems to be in the $3K - $5K range*, less if it's a 300K mile truck and the drivetrain isn't worth a lot for parts.

    * Don't quote me, I ain't no expert.

Definitely good that you're planning on disclosing the frame rust to any buyers.

Pictures will help us better advise you on a price.

Truck still at shop now, will work to post pictures later, but I can only see this one physical hole near driver side door. I guess under front skid plate there is more according to shop.

If you've got holes there, then there are likely worse places. That's a shame, sorry to hear. It's a parts truck if the rest of the frame is also in that poor of shape. Someone wanting to do a frame swap may be interested, but have to find a frame. Plus, many other components will be unusable due to rust and have to be replaced as well.

Looks like whomever put that coating on top didn’t bother to take the time to get rid of the scaling on the frame first. That’s only going to exacerbate the problem with rust corrosion.

Even done “properly”, undercoating should never be used.

Depends upon what you use. I’ve got POR-15 on my frame and it’s been holding up for 10+ years. Unless POR-15 isn’t considered an undercoat.

POR-15 is hygroscopic. Undercoating is merely topical.

Undercoating is made to protect clean surfaces, it will trap moisture and accelerate corrosion if there is any existing rust. A hygroscopic paint will absorb and encapsulate any moisture so it will bond to rust.

They should have used POR-15 instead of undercoating on the frame.

Whatever coating was used, I assume it was done at dealer, as there is a service record from 9/2013 for frame recall campaign, included foam plug kit and corrosion resistance kit.

That explains the non-factory perfect hole next to your rust.

Where are you located? I’ve seen some in pretty rusty Tacoma’s/tundras sell for decent money here in Colorado.

If it were me, I’d start it at $6500. Someone out there will be interested in swapping the frame and/or driving it as it.

There was a 2001 Tundra for sale that I almost picked up. 3.4L, supercharged, 4x4, manual t-case, 190k IIRC, rusty frame, needed some additional work and it sold for $5500.

$3000-5000 would likely be realistic assuming it’s getting frame swapped.
New frame from Toyota is ~3000 once you factor in the other little things.

As a reference, Knowing the frame needed a bunch of work, I paid 2000 for mine last January (pre-pandemic prices, yes) and, although I didn't replace the frame, I spent the entire summer repairing it. Probably spent 2500 just in frame related parts and supplies.

I hope the best for you and this truck, it really is too young to be parted out.

Maybe keep an eye out for one with a decent frame and sell them as a pair. There are many more with rotten frames around here, but every now and then one pops up with a replacement frame but bad engine/transmission/too many other issues.

They don't sell for much around here as most are rusty and there aren't many needed parts. I'm still shopping for a bed, but I don't need it so I don't want a whole truck or to spend $1200 to then have to paint and bedliner it.

Plus - like you, I'd feel bad about parting out a great truck just because of the frame.

Best of luck with whichever way you go.

As far as my research has shown Toyota has discontinued the Access cab, and Regukar Cab frames for individual purchase.

They are still making the Double Cab frames.

I can't find those anywhere on the internets.

The only way I can find those is if people who have had frames put under their trucks provide the part numbers from their service record.

I was able to pull up another members here using those, but it took some convincing.

We should probably start compiling a list of all frame numbers and put then in the frame sticky thread.

We would be able to cross reference part numbers across years, and provide links to people who are curious.

I can facilitate this, but my free time is lacking lately.

I need to see if we can still get on the site. There’s a special site to get frame recall numbers

If no longer able to access... we as "civilians" can compile a list through group participation, and cooperation.

We already have one frame number. Must be plenty based on configurations. Should be able to cross reference 2WD/4WD, year, etc...
