I’ve been doing a lot of searching and reading on the site, and found a lot of info on the intakes of our trucks. Most are saying don’t waste time on a CAI, do the SABM mod instead with a good drop in filter like AFE or AirRaid. I’ve also seen the TRD air flow accelerator mod.
So my question is, what if some of these mods were combined? Do the TRD air flow accelerator, the SABM mod, and maybe the K&N straight pipe kit with filter, to eliminate the accordion style tube? Too much? From what I’ve read, the factory air box is the best for our trucks, with these simple mods. So why not combine them? Any thoughts on this? I know it would be cheaper to just get a CAI, but I’m not budget shopping here. I like the different options and opinions for our trucks versus the Ford/Gm platforms that are all cookie cutter styles.

Hey @wildbill2020 , did you ever end up doing this mod? any objective results like HP gains and MPG? asking for a friend :cookiemonster:. I recently got a new to me 19' sr5 4.6L in April. the MPG is killing me. I feel it has issues, just cleaned the fuel injectors and the mpg is going up from an average of 12mpg to 16 which is not bad, but my mechanic said to do the CAI too. Hoping to either buy a try can or just add the 3rd accelerator to save some bucks incase the CAI does not have much of a difference.

2254F2B3-A64A-4F43-BE82-1C79E4D26E41.jpg I ended up doing the Rough Country CAI. Sounds great, exhaust got a little throatier, and I gained about 1mpg in town, average of 2mpg on the interstate

I had a 2019 4.6L and I thought the fuel mileage wasn't too bad. 19.25 MPG on the highway but sucked in town. It got better economy on the highway than my 2008 Tacoma. I wanted a transmission cooler and the dealer said $1500. For less than $1500, I traded for a 2017 5.7L DC SR5 with less miles.

Around town your going to get poor fuel economy, but it beats a repair bill for turbos and sensors or your EcoDiesel.
