Interviewing for the mechanical and manufacturing fields.

Ideally we would rent first then decide where/if we wanted to buy

As far as GA goes, here’s some info to pass along to your buddy.

Live above 285 and never step foot near Atlanta and you’ll be fine. Traffic sucks period .

Avoid Fulton,Clayton,Henry,Dekalb,Douglas, and Spalding counties just to name a quick few. Basically anything in the center of the state or anywhere it borders or touches.

Trash-Lanta is spreading to each county it touches and even further.

There’s a reason it’s called The Chicago of The South

Coweta,Pike,And Fayette counties USED to be good but they’re in ruin since the surrounding counties demolished some of their housing projects and people had to go somewhere.

If a MARTA bus or train can reach it,run far away. It’s just not worth it.

The only family friendly areas I would consider are up 400 or 575, or further up on 75 towards the TN Line. Avoid Buckhead and Lennox.

No matter where you go housing is a competition right now especially in the more affluent and desirable areas so just keep that in mind.

If your friend doesn’t have a life or death need to be down here,I can assure you with absolute certainty it is nothing like the northwest. Not in climate,or in community.

I won’t go into more details about GA but if your friends wants to talk then shoot me a PM and I’ll send out my number.

Yeah, that's what I've heard. We used to live in Waleska (right outside of Canton, GA), and it was nice then, but it's blown the hell up since then, from what I hear. You couldn't pay me to move back there.

You should totally go and check it out....even if it just turns into a really good vacation.

Montana is so beautiful and feel very fortunate to have been raised there. Hunting, fishing, and wildlife are amazing. Canada not far off...how can you go wrong.

    https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/266-Potter-Ln_Columbia-Falls_MT_59912_M75331-59807

Check something out like this. Now before you say "way too expensive" this has two houses with a solid rental history of 2000.00 per month. If you can put down 20% or like 22% from the sale of your property, 4400.00 per year on taxes and insurance, you would be around 3250.00 per month. With a solid rental background of 2000.00 per month...a 1250.00 mortgage payment to live in that area is unheard of. Well, unless you're @memario1214. He drives around his Z06 corvette in the winter for fun....if that says anything.

Good luck on the decision and ask any questions you might have.

    Function before sparkle.
I’m glad to hear that and surprised at the same time. If memory serves me correct, Canadians put close to $400M USD into the Montana economy in 2018. Not saying that it’s doom and gloom, but that must hurt someone.

I understand the concept of reducing your overhead costs, but an $800,000 purchase is not something I can afford. That would eat up my entire paycheck and leave no money for essentials. They wouldn’t qualify me on paper. But one can dream for sure

Today my wife was just browsing on Facebook just for giggles. She doesn’t have a real FB account,or spend time on there. She was just curious. Apparently there are entire forums dedicated to housing for Kalispell.

People say that they have been on a waiting list for housing for two years and it is very common to see people living in campers in parking lots or out of their cars. Others say that unless you bring $500,000 in cash to buy a house then you won’t get one.

I’m sure the housing situation is jacked up there just like anywhere else in the world today. I’m trying my best to remain positive wherever we end up. We will not be staying in GA forever, even if it takes some more time to sort things out

I have compiled a list of questions for myself to ask during the interviews about the employer and benefits packages etc. etc. as well as other information.

It never hurts to ask and it never hurts to try!

It sure is tough going to “desirable” places and find housing.

Colorado is the same way right now and my family ended up being homeless for a while. That sucks...trust me. We ended up settling on our current house before the market really took off.

Good luck on your search. Never easy.

Check out Dillon, MT...it's what Bozeman used to be before everyone wanted to "live" here...Still a college town and there lots of places to get lost...the tough part, finding valuable work...that's what pushes these places out of grasp...there are a LOT of amazing places to live...only if you don't have to work...with the advent of remote working, Bozo has become a Trustafarian's paradise...How about Chama, NM?! That is another magical place...

I'm live in a small town outside Great Falls. Housing is a nightmare everywhere in Montana right now. Next to impossible to buy something, like others have said. Read where the Flathead Valley had a influx of some 30k new residents and average cost of housing is north of 600k. That part of the state is insane. Good luck.

Well guys it looks like after 3 rounds of interviews, the company just doesn’t want to pay what their AD stated. Looks like I’ll be continuing the search!

I moved there in 2007, got the hell out in 2009. Great place, but zero work. If you take a construction job, rent, do not buy, for when the boom crashes as it will within two years, you will have to have an uncle get you a state job or move. Property taxes are high too. But the hunting is great.

We went picking in N Idaho area yesterday. Been so hot the berries are small. Luckily we had three gallons from last year still. We made a half gallon of jam from one of them. Today, fresh huckleberry pie.

You dodged a bullet there. I hear that Tennessee is the hot ticket right now. Affordable and plenty of work. Probably not as muggy as GA either. Good luck.

The Flathead 10+ years ago was actually affordable. We found a great house for almost nothing after searching for a couple of months. TODAY...we probably couldn't afford a tiny house parked in the middle of a hay field.

I looked in TN as well. Haven’t found anything yet. I have lived in TN once and lost my job and apartment,so I’m kind of jaded about the prospect of moving to TN

Just throw them on blast...I love complaining about things that dont affect me at all.

JK....But seriously thats how alot of places operate. They give a range DOE and no matter what they dont ever plan to hit the high end...No matter how good a candidate is. The valley definitely isnt blue collar friendly anymore.

awww ... "Come on, man!" Just kidding ... I'm sure none of us would be surprised, regardless. Unless it's the hospital or you have a phat 'work from home' gig, employers here don't pay shit for the most part, and rarely do they offer an actual benefits package. Gonna be really interesting when the shakeout happens, probably make '07/'08 look like child's play...

Yup, all pillow-talk yo get 'cha in bed! Like fishing, sometimes ya have to phib...creative compensation is the name of the game...truck rent, cell phone, per diem, etc...that's how you negotiate so those who have been with the company for a while aren't getting screwed...at least at face value...smart companies play smart games...ALWAYS negotiate!

After our baby is here sometime in October, I will have some parental leave.

Our plan is to get back home and healed up, then reevaluate leaving GA again after the first of the year.

The priority now is mama, new baby, and the rest of the family.
