So far the L2501 has been awesome. Already saved me a bunch of time and money on work around the house. Did a great job plowing my driveway this winter, and mowing my property with the rotary cutter. I’ve moved all kinds of stuff around the property with the forks as well.

@ColoradoTJ I envy your latest purchase. I could really use a box blade on my driveway.

For the latest project I scraped out the grass and dug down to make room for my new patio.

Awesome! Jealous of the doggos. Look at a land plane for the driveway. It will make it so smooth, especially if @ColoradoTJ is buying up the last of the box blades

I couldn’t believe inventory levels. The owner told me most models are 200 units sold already before they even hit the dealership. :eek2:

Tractors are such an amazing tool. Like the Swiss Army knife. It’s not the best tool for every job, but it can get almost every job done.

Hey guys, you still happy with the L2501's? Been thinking about getting one.

Josh, did you get yours in Spokane?

I like my tractor and it works great for the intended purpose (snow removal/mowing).

If I’m being honest, wish we would have gone bigger for additional capacity. However, that probably helps me not to work all the time on other peoples property. So, a L3901 is what I should have purchased.

    Appreciate the honest review.
Do the emissions on the 3901 worry you at all?
Do you know the ballpark price difference in the two models?

I own a Diesel 1 ton with DPF and DEF. What do you think?:D

if I remember correctly, a new 3901 one was around 4200.00 more.

Look at good used machines. Just remember the first major maintenance is at 3000 hours and is an injection pump test. Once it tests good, back on for another 3000 hours.

If you get a tractor, might be a good idea to either have or get access to a trailer. Moving these machines is a necessity. 18-24’ is what I would recommend.

This was my 16’ 14K rated trailer. This just didn’t cut it.

    97EFE768-6E14-40B9-96AC-1F6C9C48584B.jpg

This is the same tractor on my 24’. Much better, but I can put the box blade and 7’ blade up front with the tractor/FEL/brush hog combo on and that would take up all 24’ of deck space.

True, forgot you had a diesel! :D
Like any diesel, I'm sure if you use it and not idle everywhere it should be fine.
Thanks for the info on the pump test.

I should point out, my FIL has three 2wd JD tractors in the 40-55hp range that we keep hooked up permanently with implements. So this would be a 4wd snow removal/ small project tractor around my property. 800' gravel driveway.

Then an L2501 with a box blade and FEL should fit the bill nicely.

After owning a larger tractor, having a smaller 25-33hp tractor on a medium frame is something I have been looking at. Being able to get into smaller spots and maneuver around is key. I'm jumping in at the end here, but make sure your get a tractor with the best dealer. All all tractors are pretty awesome and they all have their quirks. You want a dealer that will answer a text at 830PM on Friday to walk through why the 3pt arms aren't raising or lowering. Or the filter serial numbers again for your specific model while your walking around Napa on a saturday. You find that dealer and buy whatever tractor they are selling.

Excellent point, luckily my local Kubota and MF dealers have a great reputation for service.

Things I did right at time of purchase:
    • Tires filled
    • 3rd Function
    • Cab
    • Box Blade
    • Rotary Cutter (good & bad)
    • Grapple

    Things I'd do different:
    • Buy a Backhoe (now I have to pay for install labor) sometimes you can get a deal on labor for install. Labor was waved for 3rd function
    • I'd spend the extra money on a flail mower than a rotary cutter. Price difference would have $1k to $1.5K. Definitely worth it
    • Go up the additional 10hp from 45 to 55 same frame size. It was a $1200 difference
    • I go back and forth between Hydro vs. Gear or Powershuttle transmissions. This will really come down to use. I anticipated something different. If loader work is 50%+ of what you do then Hydro is awesome. But if ground engaging attachments is 50%+ go gear or powershuttle. Hydro is a premium so I would have saved $1200 which would have allowed me to bump up HP.
Just some quick thoughts. I love my tractor and gave my advice to @NorthWoodsTundra who ended up getting a big boy tractor.

So, I am going to be taking a few months off work starting on the 27th. Two months will be house sitting for my folks while they are on vacation and looking at properties in places they are considering moving. After that, I am thinking about hauling my 640 out to my property to go ahead and clear a 200ft diameter circle for where I want to put my private campground (out in the middle of no where, but still have to pay $500+ for permission to use my property more than 7 days).
What I need to clear is 99% sagebrush ranging from 6" tall up to 6' tall. I am thinking about getting a BX Piranha tooth bar and a 6 tooth scarifier. I'm pretty sure the scarifier will grab the roots and pull up most everything as I drive over it, but I want to ensure I can get it and the tooth bar should be more than sufficient for anything the scarifier can't get.
Anyone have any other ideas? I have no interest in chaining every brush.

On this down time, I am also going to try to get my FEL off so I can split the tractor to replace the rear main seal & trans input seal along with the clutch. That is going to be a PITA to do by myself.

I was all over the board and finally settled on a new Kubota L3902. Love it, got a bucket, Land Pride Land plane, mower and a grapple, cost was $50,000. I have 50 acres, 35 acres redwood forest and 15 acres flat pasture land. The size works for me perfectly, small enough for pasture mowing and big enough for everything else I do. I looked and looked for a used Kubota and the prices were roughly $5-8,000 less, but of course no warranty and since it was used I had to pay cash. Kubota offers a 4 year loan with zero % interest, so I went new. By the way it's my second Kubota and like my Toyotas the tractor has been trouble free, however only 13 hours on her at this time. But, I think most major tractor manufactures make a quality product.

I added a stock pic, my exact tractor. We are in SoCal packing for our move to Humboldt and the big move is 5-15-23. But, again excellent tractor and maybe a bit more than I need once the roads are cut in the forest and the land is cleaned up, she will have easy duty mowing the pastures and occasional tree removal.

Yes, moving from SoCal (born and raised here in SoCal), the kids and grandson are there so time for the big move. It's the open country, rural and nice people and no traffic! Quite a change for the wife and I. I certainly wish it was another state other than CA, but with family there it makes sense. also looking forward to having cows, horses, chickens, bees (wife's hobby), maybe pigs and a bit of farming. By the way Boulder Canyon looks insane!
