Headers had done more on mpg increase, regear probably does too but I've been doing more towing/carrying heavy loads since regear.

This can't be great for the engine but it sounds awesome.

Yeah but you have to listen to that crap. If only you could get the power gains and not sound like a dumb 18 year old.

Hi Folks! Long time follower and I finally decided to take on some Mods and now...I need help.

I had the StainlessWorks headers installed and of course the CEL light followed. I plan on adding the DirtyDeeda DUal Exhaust very soon as well.

Whats the cure/solution for the LongTubeHeaders caused CEL?

CEL is typical with LTs. I have ARH LTs with their cats and still had CEL. Tried the typical defouler Vatozone sells with no luck. Saw another member used the Vibrant J Style defoulers with success. I picked up a set myself and used the middle flow insert, haven't seen a CEL since.

I had the shop place the OEM cats directly back on where the aftermarkets were located. CEL gone! They matched pipe size.

Special Thank you 5o Downytide for this key piece of advice!! So far so good!

I think newer truck is more sensitive to them, I had tried various foulers and fab some myself, no dice until I swap the factory cats back on.

as per 2017TundraNC mentioned, don't bother order the cat version for this, as they are guaranteed to give you CEL and the smell is pretty terrible, it's unbearable for me, so here is how mine was done, I had guys at GTcustom fabbed up mid pipe using OEM cats, and use v-clamps, I kept factory TRD exhaust but added x-pipe, I love it, during normal driving its pretty calm, but when flooring it screams.

Did you reinstall all 4 factory cats?
I know we only really need the first 2, but on my old LT set up I opted to keep all of the OEM cats. Had no issues with CEL besides having a bad sensor, once that was replaced it was all gravy.

Also curious if anyone's got the midpipes and cats ceramic coated for better heat retention. I'm planning on getting these SW headers coated and for a few extra bucks wouldn't mind getting the rest of the system up to the muffler.

We only installed the 2 fronts. CEL gone. No further mods from that point outward.

I put all 4 back, cause I don't like the smell, I don't really see the point of ceramic coating them since it's all stainless steel, plus I'm adding the cat/transfercase skid plate so it'll probably make it a moot point.

The ceramic coating is to keep the exhaust from emitting heat, not to prevent rust :D

@Downytide any regrets with not going 3" dual exhaust? I can save some money by going trd duals with X pipe like you did but not sure if the $600 savings is worth the 10 hp and 20 ftlb torque I may leave on the table. It would also let me piecemeal this project instead of dropping $4k on headers and 3" racing exhaust. Thoughts?

I do not have dyno sheet or know enough to subjectively say how much power this has cost me by sticking with factory rear section. But I have no regrets by sticking with stock exhaust, it's quiet when cruising as in quieter than stock, and roar when I put the pedal down.

The truck will be supercharged, so if there's power to be had by switching to full 3", I will do it then.

Make sure you opt for catless, those 3" cats are no sufficient for this engine and I could not disable CEL for the o2 sensors, and Keith has proven the factory cats don't kill power and won't stink up the air.

Thanks for the info. I am looking at these, Kooks and ARH but I think ARH might be the favorite since they seem to be the one ones who offer 2-3/4 over the 2-7/8". Sounds like the 2-7/8" is only beneficial if you intend on getting a SC which I imagine influenced your decision.

You mean 1-7/8? I chose SW cause it's t304 SS and my buddies got them on their cars without an issue in terms of rust, I see you are in PA, so you understand the road salt concern lol.

That and also SW has the air injection tube, where ARH don't, I have no idea how that affects the driving of the vehicle but my goal with this truck as reliably fast.

Also the SW headers use bolts vs studs, which made installation slightly easier, but it's still a major pain to install headers on these trucks.

The flange covers them and keeps the single primary for AIP which is all that is needed really. Also makes it a hell of allot easier to install !

Not a single issue here since initial install and looking to disable AIP once it opens up in OVTune.

I can imagine on the easier access on the top bolts/nuts, the driver's side was a huge pain to access.

still waiting for 2020+ access on tunes, feels like forever lol.

Yeah drivers side is the worst side for sure but once secured over studs bolt access was easier than passenger side lol. Dont hold your breath on that tune support !

Yeah sorry you are right I meant 1-7/8”. Yes rust is a huge concern that (and quality) has me getting away from JBA. I guess I am narrowed down to ARH or SW. You didn’t want to get any kind of ceramic coating? Thanks

No ceramic coating on mine, I'd do it on a car, but there's so much open space for air I don't see the point.

@Downytide it looks like you have a 38 gallon fuel tank and the SW midpipes fit correctly around it?

Researching LTH's and was set on ARH's until I found they don't have a current solution for 38 gallon tank trucks.

I have the 38 gallon with ARH headers and mid-pipes, no issues with fit.

headers fitment won't affected by fuel tank sizes, the exhaust cross over after transmission to the passenger's side, where the fuel tank sits on driver's side.
