finished the rigd ultraswing install by installing the license plate bolt style lights and running a secondary oem camera to the hitch - both from Amazon. still have the oem tailgate camera and swapping uses the oem harness so plug and play if i remove the ultraswing. clean. going on a trail test for some remote fishing so just zipped tied things for now. i'll assess if i want to drill into the ultraswing for running the loom. i'm happy with it.

mooooooore custom! spare cover. paying homage to toyota racing roots, who partnered with yamaha motor, which later influenced toyota racing development.

    toyota and yamaha ftw!

i know a full size spare swing out isn't everyones style but i have to say the rigd ultraswing is great if you're considering one. i've put it through the test a few times now in remote country in search of river monsters.

Great looking truck! I think I like the idea of wrapping the bumpers instead of refinishing. About how much did it cost and are you happy with the results?

in many cases, prices will vary based on location. i live in the sf bay area so some of the most expensive zip codes and service prices nationally. it was $400 per.

Do you have any worries of your tire being stolen? Or the hinge bolt removed on the rigd?

hey man, thanks for checking out the build thread. it's not my daily so if i have to go to an area that has more crime or i have to leave it outside somewhere i try to take another car. but yeah good point...the wheel and tire cost me just about as much as my deductible. lol.

been a minute since i've updated the build thread. the rigd ultraswing did great with towing some weight. that was my last test with the product to see if it could handle towing. i was presently surprised to pull this 1,000 miles over decent inclines from norcal to spokane with no issues. also, my right front morimoto headlight and my drivers side morimoto fog light were holding condensation. seems i had the v1 models. headlight revolution did great with warranty support and replaced both without issue. that's good business.

bittersweet. this will be the last post for my 08 build. thanks to everyone that commented and followed it. i'm fortunate enough to have retired it to a property in washington state i just picked up, and after 14yrs of baking under that california sun, it will now live in a garage and take me fishing to all the great rivers in wa, idaho and montana.

in terms of builds, will be turning attention to a new daily i'll use back in calif. thinking about starting a 22 build thread but haven't decided yet. don't think i'll be modding it to the extend i did the 08.

so thanks again and i'll leave you with some teasers :p

thanks for following, appreciate that. ok, my latest adventure was to curlew lake, north east washington state for fourth of july. i stayed at fishermans cove in a cabin by myself for three nights, no family. just a guy, his truck and fishing gear. they even let us fish at night so you can bet i was out there with my lantern at midnight although didn't catch. caught a bunch of rainbow trout and had an incredible experience i've always wanted. bait fishing off the dock, bringing in a 6-7" trout and a huge large mouth bass, maybe 5-7lbs, inhaled the trout. i was too shocked to think to net it or take a pic, it just spit out the trout. i was able to dehook it and set it free. it swam off ok. rough day for that trout.

and i've got the lift, wheels and tires on the 22. i love both these trucks!

22 is coming together nicely. have the pvm camera and axle bolt recalls to take care. 4k miles so far. overall though i'm super happy! here's the build thread.

i have since moved to another place and brought the 08 back home to norcal. ended up selling the 22. love the truck, tech beats the 2nd gen but my particular early 3rd gen build had a lot of rattles, wind noises, badge problems and errors that seemed to be software only and not functional. like a parking brake error but it worked fine. gone after restart. and i only need one truck once and awhile...and i knew if i sold the supercharged 08 i'd have instant remorse having built it for 16 years with so many family memories.

so...we're back. the clear coat on the 08's roof is peeling like a snake shedding it's skin. gonna look into having it resprayed. more updates to come...

Man, I haven’t seen your build thread before but I absolutely love your truck. That red really pops and your mods are tasteful and well done. Sorry about your starter. :(

I’m kind of wondering at what point we should do preventative maintenance for alternators and starters so as to not get stranded.

oh, thanks for checking it out! yeah me too. the starter gave me signals i just didn't act on them lol. my transmission gets cranky when its cold so we'll see how long that lasts and the alternator would likely be a target for me as well. at some point i probably need to have the super charger looked at it has ~75k miles on it now. we changed the fluids but the pulley for example may need serviced or better yet upgraded.

super bored so sharing a picture of my first toyota truck; where it all started for me. .....a 92 4x4 xtra cab, before they were tacoma's. loved this truck. my pops negotiated the wheels, level and sunroof in the deal, and got it at invoice. miss that dude.

this is off hwy 36 overlooking boulder, co.

    IMG_0011.jpg

and more adventures. the mccloud river in norcal is a fairly famous fishery. decades ago, trout from the river were transplanted all over the world given the quality of fish it produces. local/pro tip - there is a preserve deep in the mountains requiring 4x4 only for 8miles. they only let 10 fishers a day in this 3 mile stretch, highly regulated catch and release. it's the place of river monsters....gigantic browns, cuthroats and rainbows. im still on the hunt but caught these beauties. enjoy.
