Not sure why there isn't one already but here goes...

I have really started looking into dialing in my camping gear, so that means looking at quality gear and spending a little more then I have in the past.

My goal of this thread is to discuss gear that members use and enjoy while camping[any method], as well as, any sales that any members know about.

What I have bought in the last 3 months:
    -MSR thru-hiker mesh house 2
    -MSR thru-hiker 100 wing shelter
    -MSR windburner stove
    -Helinox Cot One
    -Helinox Chair One
    -Therm-a-Rest ProLite sleeping pad
    -ZPack stacks and stack bag

Next purchase is going to be an Elightened Equipment Revaluation Custom.

I have some gear that I have that I really enjoy a few are:
-Osprey packs[I have a couple backpacks and a duffle from them, love Osprey packs]
-Hill People Gear original kit bag V2
-Hill People Gear Terapocket[I use this to store food in and strap on outside of pack while hiking and toss it over a tree branch with 550 cord while sleeping as animal protection]
-Therm-a-Rest compressible travel pillow.[I've had this thing for 10 years and left it compressed for at least 5 years and I just uncompress it about 2 weeks before a trip and it was go to go, just like new.]

Any and all gear talk is appreciated. Please lets play nice, each person has their own reasoning for their gear choice.

    Thanks
    Edsel

MSR has great nesting pots. Versions for vehicle camping or hiking.

I’ll edit this later to add model numbers, etc.
    Tent
    Sleep mat
    Sleeping bags

I have fine/tuned my kitchen gear to fit ‘everything including the kitchen sink’ and stove into a large Pelican case. I use Pelican and Condition 1 cases almost exclusively because everything else breaks in the truck bed bombing off-road.

Jetboil Genesis Base Camp 2-burner stove

    Sink

@Sunnier I recently ordered 4 of the FrontRunner Wolf Boxes so that I can separate all my gear by type[i.e. fly fishing, tent camping, weekend trips, etc.] Pelicans are nice and I like the different sizes but some can be bulky. Haha. Its a double edged sword.

I like the MSR windburner for hiking/camping, I have a Coleman duel burner for vehicle camping once my AT Overland Summit topper arrives.

I’ll look again on your recommendation, but I’ve never found any of these large enough for specific single large items (portable water heater) or smaller items grouped together (kitchen box with stove). After not finding a good option to carry a coffee pot, I even got one for my entire coffee prep kit. I broke 6 gear boxes before deciding to spend the money for the ones I have now.

Several of the guys I go off-road with are using Ridgid stacking tool cases sold at Home Depot, and if I need anything else, I’ll probably give one a try. They look heavy duty; however, I see them typically stored in the cab. The truck I break everything in is an LT 1st Gen access cab: fridge and bedding I don’t want dusty go in the cab— everything else goes in the bed. So far only the ridiculously expensive overbuilt options last past one trip.

I will update my first post with a detailed list of my favourite gear, and pics or links, but can’t today. I’ll go back and ease the other posts too, to clean up your thread so it’s useful.

I like the idea of this thread, so I jumped in early with promises to edit later, because my specialty expertise is breaking storage cases off-road. Figured once it’s updated, I can save someone else some money in the long run, pushing the ‘buy once, cry once’ adage.

3" OME lift w/ UCAs. ARE overland shell w/ ARE roof rack. 34" Falken Wildpeaks. ARB awning. Road shower. Wilco Offroad Hitchgate Solo High Clearance. LED lighting upgrades. Lockerdown console safe. Weathertech floormats. Duluth deluxe rear seat cover to go under the offroad approved car seats.... :P
I use these Rigid boxes for mine. I have 2 of the small flat ones permanently mounted to my roof rack. One for tools and one for always on basic camping equipment (tarps/ rope/ stakes/ etc for my ARB awning room and big slumberjack fly tarp). I'm in the process of configuring my car camping set up into 4 of larger boxes and 2 more of the smaller flat boxes. They are awesome, and can't be beat for 1/10th the cost of pelican boxes. I will post some pictures once they are configured. The intent is to be able to stack the 2 smaller ones on my permanently mounted pair, and strap down the 4 larger ones on my roof rack to keep my bed and cab completely clear of camping gear. I can strap my tent, etc down on top if needed, but they live on a daily basis against my cab with a cargo net securing them all.

Looks nice and seems well built, haven't used it yet, just put it on last month. I'll report back after fathers day weekend. Have a week at the Sand Dunes scheduled.

I’m interested as well. I know a lot of people mount Road Showers high up but I always figured they wheel slowly or stay on fire roads-??

I have a 7 gallon in the truck, so about 55 pounds static. Anticipating the effects of this dynamic weight would be too much for my kb voodoo rack (they fall apart w/o much weight in high-speed off-road conditions), I mounted it in the bed right up next to the cab. It’s strapped down tightly to the floor, never visibly moves, yet it’s pushed the front wall of the bed forward so it’s bowed around the Road Shower. For hard wheeling, I’m guessing there’s no way to keep ‘em securely attached up high for long without damage to the vehicle— I’d love to hear I’m wrong on this. I have several Water Ports as well, same challenge, except the Road Shower fits perfectly across the 1st Gen bed.

My use for the Road Shower will be mostly for family camping trips and showering on hunting trips, so probably fire roads and easier, slower wheeling. I'll probably end up running it empty for rougher stuff and filling it from a jerry can and field pressurizing it, just to err on the side of caution. I'm going to be pretty gentle on everything on my roof rack until I've tested it all pretty well... The ARE rack is super beefy, so I'm more looking at bolts, and mounting points as places that can fail. Either way I'll probably throw a couple ratchet straps over it as a backup to the mounting points if I'm bouncing the truck around. The Tundra is mostly my family camping rig anyway, I have an LX470 that is my dedicated hardcore wheeler. I'm much more comfortable abusing it, as it's already got more dents than paint...

Just purchased a new water filtration unit. I currently use a sawyer, for when I hike. This new unit with be used mainly for truck camping and for a thru-hike of the PCT that I'm hoping to do in a couple years. This is the unit I just bought:

    https://www.platy.com/filtration/gravityworks-water-filter-system-6.0l4.0l/gravityworks.html

I bought it from MooseJaw. Got 25% off. Not sure if you guys have noticed but I try not to pay full retail for anything.

I use that for my hunting kit, just bought it last year. Works awesome, super light and compact. Good choice. We base camp 8-10 miles from the trailhead and this was a huge improvement over pump filters or tablets for our camp water supply.

    Anyone purchase any new gear?

I’ve been MIA as I’m currently deployed and don’t feel the need to buy anything that I won’t be able to use in the near future. But I do still look for killer deals and sales…just in case.

So I’ll be coming back stateside in the next couple months, and have once again started going down the rabbit hole of gear and adventuring.

    New gear I’ve bought:

MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe Stove kit
    MSR Evo trail snowshoes
    Black Diamond Cork trekking poles
    Outdoor Research tundra aerogel booties
    Thermarest NeoAir XTherm sleeping pad
    Osprey Exos 58L
Feather Friends 0 degree sleeping bag

My wallet is on fire. Thankfully must of the stores offer a military discount. Hoping to get out to Crater Lake this winter for some camping and snow shoeing.

So after talking with a friend I think I’m going to get an Osprey Stratos 34 pack and set it up as a day hike go bag. That way if I’m on a trail and want to stay the night I will have that option.

What my plans are to have packed inside:
•Mid-Layer fleece hoodie [Black Diamond factor hoodie]
•top layer [Outdoor Research Shadow insulated jacket]
•rain coat [Outdoor Research Helium rain jacket]
•bivy [Outdoor Research Helium Bivy] [hoping the dog and I can fit]
•sleeping bag [Mountain Hardware Bishop pass 30 degree] ENDED UP BEING TOO BULKY so ordered a 30 degree quilt
•sleeping pad [Therm-a-Rest ProLite sleeping pad]
•stove [MSR Pocket Rocket inside a Snow Peaks Trek 700 titanium pot]
•fire & water [sawyer squeeze plus bic lighter and fire plugs]
    •power [Anker powercore 10000]
•odd and ends [food and snacks and items for the dog, he does have his own pack that he carries food and other stuff]

It’s going to primarily be a 2-3 season pack, the warmer months. May get one of those Sea to Summit sleeping bag liners to add warmth in the fall. I own everything except the pack and the sleeping bag.

Would like to hear your thoughts on the set up.
