@LibertySand that rack is going to be tits. I remember you having a race style jack and skid plate thing on it. does it jack up high enough to lift the tires off the ground?

Don't get me wrong. It works. I would say if you have a sturdy base to pull it off and bring it down to the ground safely then do it.
I am not the strongest dude in the world but a 35" + rim can weigh up to 120lbs at most. Grabbing it and safely bring it down is not only dangerous but you can really hurt yourself or even the rig. And if you huck it off the roof.. well lol its gonna be fun if doesn't land flat.
Wilco got some good options. look into them.. Prices are fair as well.
@mac11 makes a really nice swing out.

Ya, I'm trying to get it the rack done before the Tundras to Sedona trip. I have the same Jack at home that I use in the garage and so far I've never had to use a block under it but I may make an adapter riser for it just in case....

Jack extension for the Pro Eagle 2 ton jack along with it fitting the harbor freight 1.5 & 2 ton jacks. Locks into the foot pad so it doesn't kit out. Adjustable height.

    http://store.sdhqoffroad.com/13extensionforoff-roadjack.aspx

and if your jack doesn't have the right foot plate, they make one that you can change out as well for $20.

Good question LAW. If you look at the picture close, I have a tie down strap going fwd in both directions, and a piece of grade 70 chain with a black abrasion sleeve over it to quiet it and blend into the tie-down strap. A grade 70 chain is almost un-cuttable and the bullet proof pad lock is locked at the rim itself. I unbolted the OEM tie-down hook and looped the chain through it. If someone wants it, they're going to get it. (this keeps out the honest thief).

Probably going to trim the guides and then work the full sized spare back towards the rear bumper for more clearance

Its faster than air I'd think since its under pressure. Just gotta carry around a tank. I run nitrogen in my tires, larger molecules so the tires don't deflate on their own. Nitrogen is under more pressure than air and co2 and I'm able to watch my tires inflate and deflate within seconds. I ran nitrogen in 3 sets of tires for a car, when i sold the car along with the spares, the tires were still full after years of sitting.

I'm pretty happy with it so far. I modified it a little by putting 3M PUL1212 tape on the areas where the tire rests to prevent ware on the powder coat. It should preserve it for a long time to come.

If you're just worried about a spare for emergency situations just buy the cheapest rim and cheapest 35 you can find.

I actually wheel my Tundra. Being on a trail miles away from any tire shop, it's good to have a spare the same size as what the other 4 are. I currently run 35" and thats a bit bigger than the stock which could severally damage some chit inside the differentials if I had a long way's to get off the trail. I also carry plugs but I'd rather change a tire than plug it, unless I really need to.

What works for some, doesn't work for others.

Before I built my rack, thats exactly what I did. I used the Tundras Spare 18" Rim and found a used 34" tire. Till I got my 17" Spare Method rim.

I can remember if it was on this thread or not but on a 6in lift if your front goes flag you'd have to do a 2 tire swap correct?

I'm not sure who is fawkin with you but No. It doesn't matter what size lift or no lift. If you swap the flat tire with the same size tire as the tire you pulled off than you are good.

    In a 4X4 Truck situation:
If the tire is not the same size as the other side of the vehicle you can do some damage to the differential. The reason being is that the smaller tire will be rotating faster than the other larger tire, thus during sharp turning the differential will be working overtime while it's trying to slip power to one axle shaft to the other. This greatly compounds destruction if the axle has a locker or spool in it.

So did you read somewhere you need to change both tires to a set of smaller tires if one large tire blows? This would be wise if you had 2 smaller tires to quickly replace them with... but I'd put a plug in the large flat tire first before doing that.
