My questions were "why". Like many, I'm a bit anal with things. How I do my job, or when I mod one of my vehicles would be two of them. It wasn't meant to slam anyone or anything - it's curiosity as to the benefit. I come here, look at what guys do - and get an education in the process because I'm certainly no Tundra expert nor would I spend the time to become one. Fortunately this site has quite a few, and it's educational for someone like myself.

I analyze other peoples mods, ask questions, and gain knowledge and understanding. I think the grill and bumper lights look cool, can see where there's functionality to be gained.....and get it. In reading about these on the cab light racks - I was simply asking "why" because it seemed the negatives far outweigh the positives. No slap on you or anyone else - I figured I must be missing something. It seems maybe I wasn't, and unless you're a serious off roader - they seem to be more ornamental and for looks. Fine, that's cool - everyone can do whatever they want, it's their trucks - I was just looking to see if there's some benefit I'm unaware and lacking from an educational purpose. No need to get huffy - just a simple exchange of "why"...

I did find it a bit odd that he put free speech in quotes when jumping on my case... I read it like Dr. Evil.. Oh well. Thread officially derailed. Sorry OP.

Here's a couple thoughts: Based on the many lumber/construction racks I've built and used, the noise is largely dependent on placement. Forward enough or high enough to allow uninterrupted air flow helps to reduce the howling.
Second, I would never install one up there because of the many times I've had tree branches sliding up and over the corners of the cab. Having dealt with creasing truck cab roofs, stripping off trim, and tearing off antennas, I would not want to put a $1000 install at risk.

I understand the trendiness of "cool" and am not immune, but for myself, what works really well is what looks really good. "Form follows function" = Art.

I'm pretty sure we can disagree without being insulting and acting like little kids.

Yes it was. I didn't disagree with that.

The foul name calling was the issue.

To his credit- BenAZ did man up and apologized , maybe we should all just hang out and chill as we all continue to learn and enjoy the forum. Lots of great knowledge on here.

This is a great site with a very funny and cool bunch of guys and gals who are all about the Tundra.

Yep. He sure did. A good recovery by a guy with a badass truck!

That is one fly ride @BenAZ. I'm envious of what you've done to it and how it sits now

    Seriously...I love it

These were in the hanger on an aircraft I'm contracting on right now. Two thoughts struck me. 1 - they look cool and are probably functional, and, 2 - these golf carts sure aren't what they were like when I was a kid.

That reminds me of a custom golf cart shop that was down the street from me when I was a kid in Lake Havasu. Long travel, street bike swaps, bead locks, all kinds of crazy stuff. This was well before side by sides were a thing too (late 90's). Cool stuff.
