I have a 10" system that I did not install the resonator on, but I have always wanted something a little bit more aggressive... the kicker is I tow a camper a handful of times per year.

If I switch to an 8" system but install the resonator will I get a more aggressive sound without making it unbearable when towing?

    Thanks for any advice.

"Unbearable" is very subjective. I run the 10" without a resonator and I'm fine with it when towing, but others have said they can't take it even when they are not towing without the resonator. From my understanding the 8" is only going to be a bit more raspy and slightly louder most of the time, but the drone while towing is bad enough that Keith recommends the 10" for any towing. Your best bet is going to be calling Keith and talking to him about your goals. You might wind up needing a custom system, and he does those too.

    Not nearly enough room here!
Sound is so subjective but in my case, my 10" system with resonator is ideal for towing. As a 67 year old construction worker/shooter, my hearing is by no means "good" either! We tow 8 to 10 hours at a stretch, every year. My 10" system 'informs' me as to what's going on with the engine and transmission but still sounds "grown-up".

Keith gave me the same advice. He tows a lot. I run a 10 with resonator and it’s plenty loud when I want it to be, no highway drone, and has a nice purr at idle and around town. People comment on it all the time.

Anyone know how comparible the sound of the dirty deeds exhaust is to the TRD pro exhaust? I'm guessing the dirty deeds with 10" resonators is the closest comparison in terms of volume?

I've run the TRD exhaust, 12 inch BAM with tailpipe resonator, 8 inch BAM with tailpipe resonator, and currently 8 inch BAM with 1 resonator behind the muffler and 1 in the tailpipe.

The 8 inch BAM with 2 resonators is my favorite.

None of the BAM's that I've used are louder than the TRD exhaust on the inside - as long as you use the tailpipe resonator, but they're all louder than TRD exhaust on the outside.

My biggest issue with TRD was the helicopter sound at steady highway speeds. Other than that, I thought the exhaust sounded good.

Thanks for this. I'm thinking before the year is out I'll be picking up one of their exhausts. Based on the comments in this thread, and since I tow regularly, I'll likely end up with the 10" resonator version, but I could be persuaded to pick up the 8".

When I had the 12 inch with resonator, I always thought it was too quiet - never too loud. More like a slightly deeper toned version of stock. And I hate drone and excessively loud exhausts.

You'll hear the 8 most of the time, but it's not obnoxious or annoying.

The 10 with resonator should split the difference between the 8 and 12.

I'm running the 8" with the resonator and tow a lot. Too me it sounds better while towing at least on flat terrain, I almost went with the 6" though. If you live/tow in hilly terrain you'll definitely turn some heads and might grow tired of it.

I too have the helicopter sound at certain rpms and speed with trd exhaust. Anyone running the resonator on the trd? If so, would that eliminate the drone?

I’d go 8” with resonator. Depending on how often you tow, he does have a plug that allows you to take the resonator off and plug the hole if it’s too quiet for you when your not towing.

Its easy to go back and forth between stock mufflers and DD if you dont like the noise towing just put stocker back on

No difference that I could feel between the BAM systems. All felt stronger than OEM across the entire range.

The TRD had less low end torque (you could feel it lugging between 45 and 60 mph in 6th), but good mid range and top end.

I have an entire thread on this in the performance section. I experimented with H pipes and resonators with TRD.

The H pipe got rid of the helicopter sound, restored low end torque, but got rid of the throaty burble too. The tone was deeper, smoother and a little droney.

The resonators made the interior very quiet and tempered the exterior sound too. Resonators and h pipe was nearly stock sounding. Resonators with true dual setup was like a quieter TRD. The helicopter sound was there but not annoying - you had to listen for it.

Would anyone want to trade their 8inch dirty deeds exhaust for a 10"? I want more than what the 10inch offers.. I've only had my system for 5 months now. 2020 Tundra platinum
