    Hello,

I just picked up a 2003 Tundra Access Cab 4x4 TRD to build out as a camper/minimalist overlander. I'm shopping for used toppers and found a SnugTop in great condition but it's coming off of a 2005 Tundra Access Cab. When I searched online, it seems like the 99-03 have different bed dimensions from 04-06 on the Access Cabs. Does anybody have any experience with this and have any idea whether the toppers from the 04-06 Access Cabs might fit?

    Cheers,
    Jeff

The AC beds are all the same from 99 through 06. Even the DC beds are so close that many have used the camper shells interchangeably. That 05 shell should fit your 03 just fine.

Thanks everyone! Wikipedia and all sorts of stats pages say that the 03 has a different bed length from 04-06, but I called Snugtop and they confirmed it should work (they used the same toppers for 01-06). I am going to pick it up tomorrow and will report back here if it doesn't.

RE using a DC on my AC, it's probably a close fit but I am going to use this almost exclusively for camping and want to make sure it's as water tight as possible with a topper. Obviously the bed can still let in a little water, but I am trying to start off with a topper that is a good fit.

If you put a DC topper on an AC it will be short; vice versa. The first topper I bought the guy had on a DC and wasn’t sure which it was meant for. On his DC, it stuck out about 3/4”. When we placed it on my truck, it fit perfect. I’m sure it may very slightly brand by brand.

I bought these seals to help water proof as I use it for camping too. It does leak a little when I go through the car wash but standard rain doesn’t seem to be an issue.

Only found this picture but this is an AC topper on a DC. Hard to see, but you can see how it over hangs in the rear.

The toppers for the 00-06 AC's are all the same for the AC's as are the 00-06 DC's for the DC's. What I noticed though, and this is from personal experience, it depends on who the manufacturer is of the topper.

Last year I was selling the topper off my 04 AC and I had two different interested buyers show up with DC's and for both, the topper did not fit. In the case of my topper, it hung over by 2" easily, so my opinion would be to stick to AC topper for AC and DC topper for DC but that's just me.

Oh - reg cab long box has a longer box so the toppers won't fit either of the AC or DC.

Yes, the AC and DC cabs/beds look similar but they're different. I bought a shell from an 04 AC for my 06 DC and the cab is slightly differently. The shell sat about 1" higher than my cab and water leaked into the bed when it rained and when I washed my truck.
Since buy a the proper size shell for my truck, I have had zero issues with fitment and leaks.
