    Hello,

This question is not necessarily Tundra oriented, but I was curious if anyone could offer advice.

I put a 14" scratch on my friend's truck bed, it's a Ford, it's aluminum. I penetrated the paint, but I think the bed side, where I scratched it, is still straight and not in need of any repair.

I didn't cause the damage with my truck, and I am afraid to call my insurance company to explain the circumstances, because I might bet that they keep track.

The repair bill is 300 some dollars over my deductible, should I just pay my friend cash or go the insurance route? I don't want my insurance to go up, I realize I am risking this. Also, is this something they would even cover since I didn't do it with my vehicle? I have been lucky enough so far to never have been in this situation.

If anyone knows, I would appreciate the help.

Claims can cause your rates to go up. If I could pay cash, I would.

For the minimal amount over your deductible, I’d just pay your friend.

Where and how did this happen? Homeowners might cover it if it was on your property.
If you can swing it, pay him cash, apologize for the damage with a 30 pack, and move on. Or let him scratch your Tundra in the same area, and saw it’s a pact to be friends for life. Lol.

Were you driving his truck? I'm a little confused by your question. How did the damage happen and why will your comprehensive/collision deductible come into play?

I wouldn't let him touch my truck, now he is blood thirsty. I'd be measuring my scratch with calipers and it would only get worse from there, we'd both end up with totaled trucks if we took that path

I'll just give him the money I owe him for the damage I did, probably a six pack and a ride home from the body shop.

I was stringing a recurve bow a little too close to his new and shiny BLACK truck and it slipped off my right ankle (ONLY time that has ever happened to me). Such luck... :annoyed:

It would be homeowners maybe, now that I look into it, I'm not even going to take that path. I've never been in this situation. I have everything through the same outfit, it would be coming from the same people anyway.

Your Home owners deductible may be too high.
Home owners insurance will not be impacted like auto would, or near as much.
Call your agent. It can't hurt to go over your options.

Homeowners will get you good if you make too many claims. Similar to car insurance. Be careful. They doubled our rates after two claims(break ins, not accidental damage).

Agree with this...call your agent and have a chat. A conversation is not the same as filing a claim.

Hope this isn't making a friendship go sour....accidents happen, and thankfully it seems like you're doing your best to make things right.

What kind of friend lets someone drive a Ford anyways?

Nah, we are good. I messed up, so I have to pay up now. He was pretty understanding, even though it was new. I'm pretty embarrassed about it though.

Hey, at least now you can give him crap about how easily his Ford gets boo-boos....
Glad to hear there’s no friendship lost. So many good friends can be lost over petty things that can easily be fixed or replaced if handled like adults.

I would just pay to fix it. Sucks but I’d be saving my homeowners claims for bigger issues like break ins, broken pipe damage etc etc

It would probably fall under comprehensive... not collision which may have a different deductible and doesn't cause your rates to increase. Check with your insurance company/carrier...They are not going to raise your rates for asking a question.
