How bout that Ford Lightning

They were freaking out about “the price will shock you in a good way!” I was hoping sub-30K. But it’s supposed to start “under” 40 grand. Which means $39,999. I’ve heard it’s pretty quick, but I still don’t fully understand the fully electric vehicle thing. Just doesn’t seem like it’d work for me.

 

I wish this whole EV movement could have waited for 50 more years.

This is interesting. But what happens when your truck dies from powering your house and you still don’t have power. Dead house AND dead truck. Then you have to use the fossil fuels to recharge the green batteries.

 

I won’t deny, it’s cool they made it more useful than just being electric powered. They made it a little more worth their time. Anyone have anything on payload/towing specs?

If I could afford a new truck I would definitely check out the Lightning!

But I love my basic bare bones Tundra and I hope it just keeps rolling along for many years.

Have you researched what Toyota is doing in the EV space? Toyota has the possibility to dominate EV's or atleast make a ton of money. Over a thousand patents on a new battery design that will probably be the end to ICE cars. Time will tell.

 

10,000 lbs towing. 2000 lbs payload for the small battery, 1800 lbs payload for the large battery.

but you wont get 300 miles while towing. the range is such a limiting factor for an electric truck. how could you pull your boat or travel trailer to the river or camp site? you would never make it. Ford said that if you buy the larger battery, they include an 80 amp charger for your house. i bet that is a quick charger and it might charge the battery in an hour? but if you are on the road or in a remote area, how do you charge that battery? they should have added solar panels to the top of the truck

I hate the giant tablet stuck onto the dash and it seems silly to me to have a giant grille (or any grille) on an electric vehicle. It's not like they need the airflow (do they?).

Can't wait for this to come out. Specs look excellent for the extended range model and utility with the front trunk would be great - no messing with tonneau covers and i could have a rack and tent on with a cook setup up front and onboard power. Will definitely wait till its at least a generation in though to work out your typical Ford kinks. Price is great too especially if you can apply the $7.5k tax credit. EV is the future whether you want it to be or not.

I don't think Toyota will be left behind neither are they worried. They have a set timeline and will execute their plan on time and won't be pressured by Ford to speed it up. They aren't new to the game of EVs or hybrids. I'm looking forward to see what they bring to the table.

 

Ford said three days but I can't imagine it powers the whole house for three days.

563 HP variant will hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in around 4.5 seconds. With 300 mile range, I’m sure that range would be cut by 1/3 if towing. But what a perfect vehicle for local work trucks.
