Loose, wandering feel on front end.

    Hey guys i acquired a 2006 2500 chevy. I took it out on its first 400 mile trip. Proud to say this 64k mile truck runs great drivetrain wise, but we all know these american truck needs some maintenance bc other things fall apart. Main thing i want to ask is front end, when driving highway speeds the front end seems to wander around a little if i were to make a minor move on the steering wheel. Feels just a little to loose for a “modern” 2006 model low mileage truck. I got new tires and got an alignment prior to this trip.

    i am thinking of replacing; tie rods, warned out bump stops and shocks? What else you suggest to remedy my issue?

    The warned out bump stops, could this promote the unsteadiness feel along with warned tie rods, shocks?

    Alignment shop said “oh front end never been aligned before tabs still on it, just a little toe in.” Looks good maybe ill go back since its so close by.

    If the rest of the rubber looks like those bump stops, it’s a do! I know my buddies 95 Tahoe practically rides on the bump stops, so it could come in to play how it feels on the road. And those shocks are an easy swap out on those torsion bar front ends. That’s a pretty good looking 06 right there!

    You could definitely start with some new bump stops though LOL definitely needed.

    I'm betting thatbthe shocks are original. Definitely replace them as a start.

    You’re due for all new rubber and joints. It’s low mileage but dried out.

    You can change those yourself! Just let the alignment shop readjust your alignment after you’re done with everything but you can get a pretty close by counting the threads.

    It really can’t hurt to start with those, they are consumable and look pretty dead. You can do all that yourself. When you put the tie rods back on, get it close to where the other ones were as far as thread count. (This way your alignment isn’t too far off) If that seems to have fixed the problem, go get another alignment and be done with it for a while. If not, guess we will have to go further in the suspension components like, lower control arm bushings ball joints etc.
