I haven't really done many modifications to any vehicles lately. I have purchased a few things that have been powder coated for my quads or tractor but not my truck. So this question comes from a humble position.

I recently purchased and installed the Cali Raised sliders on my Tundra. Within two months there was considerable rust showing at most welded junctions along the slider. I contacted them and inquired " are they having any issues or problems with the coatings or the process?" There was a considerable up charge for the finish.

They asked that I send pictures and I did. After a few weeks of back and forth, (CR customer service always responsive and timely) they decided to send me a can of spray paint for the solution to this disturbing problem.

I do have other parts and pieces on the truck from RAGO and have a bike rack, all of which have powder coating. And the coating has discolored or gotten gray, but no rust. I recently took the truck to a body man and asked him his opinion. Apparently its a pretty involved application and if not prepped correctly it can be compromised.

So my question...... is the can of touch up paint sufficient ? Would you guys accept that as the solution?

    Thanks

    Dreux

I assume the sliders you got were powder coated? I could see rust if you scraped them and the powder coat was damaged, but not at the welds in just two months. Either way, sending me a can of spray paint would piss me off more than the rust.

Unfortunately, sending them back on your dime is not cost effective, even if they were willing to re-coat them. At this point I'd just have them removed and blasted and powder coated by a reputable local shop and call it a day. You could send them the receipt along with your pics and a link to this thread and request that they at least pick up half the cost. They have to know this sort of customer service won't go unshared with the rest of the Tundra community, but I wouldn't hold out much hope. If not, chalk it up to a lesson learned and a PSA for the rest of us to consider if shopping for sliders in the future.

I agree. Its an unfortunate situation and I had higher expectations for CR. Definitely a huge disappointment and a lesson to all.

you need to have them sandblasted and coated with a zinc rich primer. if you do this, they will not rust. most powder coating is aesthetic at best

That’s too bad! Can of paint can be interpreted as insulting. I can get a can of paint but I need “You/CR” to do something I can’t do since this may be more of a can of paint issue.

Thanks for sharing as I am looking at getting slides too.

2 months??? Got pics? They definitely botched the powder coating and that’s completely unacceptable. I had my sliders coated over 5 years ago and the top half still looks brand new. I doubt you’ll get them to pay for removal, sand blasting, recoating, and reinstall. I would really push for it but at the very least, get your money back for the powder coating you paid for. Don’t accept anything less. Try to get more.
