I think gas engines in HD trucks are just starting to get amazing. They spent so many resources to get diesels to 1000 lb ft of torque and appear to redirected that at the gassers. You know they're going to be reliable, they focus on that first since many fleets run them for 300k km with over 50% idling, now they're just adding the power. The old GM 6.0 and Ford 6.2 just left you wanting more they de-tuned them so much. It's awesome to hear they've cranked up the power already with the 6.6 and 7.3, now to see how far they take them. Is this the new front to replace the diesel torque wars?

I’ve enjoyed my 2020 GMC 2500 HD diesel so much that I’m on my way to get my next GMC. I’m going to try and keep this one more stock! No promises though. :D

The best thing you can do for the Hemi is keep up the regular scheduled oil changes . I’ve done A LOT of research on them and the main reason for the lifter ‘ cam issue is not doing the oil changes on time . If you idle a lot the oil change should go by engine hours which is 320 hours and not mileage . I’ve seen the uncle Tony video on the Ram sight and his experiment of pouring oil over the lifter is not what would really happen . If he put the lifter inside the lifter galley and sent the oil in at a minimum of 32 psi he would have had a different outcome .

I just sold my other lifted GMC 2500 HD a few weeks ago. I enjoyed it but I want to keep a more modest looking truck for my business use. I came across this used GMC and I got a great deal on it too! It already has the Toyo AT tires I wanted, ARE vented camper shell, amp research steps, decked bed storage system, rigid leds and tint. I typically change trucks every two years.

In a few years I am actually considering the Chevy 2500 6.6L gas. Last year when my wife and I paid off our Daily Driver we purchased a 2020 6.2 V8 Camaro and while I wouldn't mind using that to visit Connecticut my wife would like more room so we probably will end up towing it there. My wife and I agreed that we would like to get an enclosed car hauler for it and while the towing weights would be in half ton territory still on this current truck it could put it over the limit with other stuff we would like to bring on the CT trips. The 2022 Tundra is coming out and it could have bigger payload so we will see because like I said its a few years out but that 3k payload on the 2500s puts us in a more comfortable position.

You could also look at a 1 ton. For a few hundred bucks more you jump from 3k to 4K. That way if you ever decide to upgrade trailers or tow a 5th wheel you won’t need to consider another truck. Just a thought. And who knows in a few years we might have an electric HD that tows 50k lbs.

Also I got my gas 1 ton for the same price as my truck and trims were comparable. LT vs SR5

I can look into it thanks for the tip. We are probably going to end up being barely into 2500 territory with the enclosed when we get it cause of payload since it falls under half ton tow ratings. I won't need the diesel. I have a lot of time to research since we are not looking to do for a few years give or take.

Not a huge difference between the GM 3/4 and 1 ton payloads on the current generation. My 3/4 is 3,500#, 1 ton is about 500 more for an equivalent truck. Same towing capacity so it might just come down to what you can find a better deal on.

My SLE is 4286. It’s not huge but when you jump to GN or 5th wheel towing, 2500lb tongue weight on 3500 vs 4200 changes how you look at loading cargo. Especially for a $485 price difference. Just thoughts. Another deciding factor for me was everyone bought all the 3/4 tons

I haven't looked into the actual deals but I thought the MSRP on a 3500 was about $2k more than a 2500.

Depends on trim. If you build it online yes the MSRP is about $2k higher but most 1tons are either dually or diesel so more deals for gassers. Where I purchased the same truck just 3/4 vs 1 ton was $485 difference. My dealer could be an outlier

It is highly dependent on area - around me try to find a Gas HD that's not white and low trim. It's a hard ask in a normal year, the dealers seem to stock 90% diesel for mid to upper trim

I had to order mine. Got a good deal from a larger regional dealer, just had to wait about 2-1/2 months. That way you get exactly what you want too.

Yeah it took me awhile to find the gasser.
my local dealer is like that. Only puts +$70K trucks on the lot. Luckily I found a dealer a couple hours north of me order 3 of the same truck, black, blue and gray back in December. They just made it to the lot in April. Just got super lucky with timing and incentives

    Well....

The Silverado 2500 HD put in some work for the family this weekend. Had a soccer tournament in Nashville, TN and took the truck. About a 3 hour drive.

Left this morning after our daughters game this morning to come home. Truck weighs 7,500 pounds with me in it. Had the wife and 3 bed full of luggage, large cooler full, soccer goals, and equipment for team. Truck was easily 8,000 pounds.

Had to pull 2 vehicles out of mud on Saturday. Soccer fields were packed and no where to park except in overflow parking in low area by a river. It rained for 10 minutes Saturday and just enough to make it pretty slick and soft in some areas. Had to pull out a Chrysler Town N Country and a 2x4 older Ram that was stuck and buried after the rain.

Hit stop and go traffic leaving Franklin, TN. 35 minutes of stopped traffic on I-40 in Crossville, TN, stopped to eat and get gas, crossed over Cumberland Plateau so had some inclines....

Averaged 17.4 MPG. My computer in this truck is pretty accurate and always within .3 of Fuelly verified miles. Cruise set on 70-74 the whole time.

If they would only put a turbo charged 6 cylinder and a 10-speed transmission I am sure I would have gotten 20+ MPG....:DC8B9B389-C81A-4292-9DB5-5FF8F4E5765A.jpg614FECAA-C579-4194-9B60-E7412FC8F35E.jpg

GM sells that now but it burns oil (by design). :D

    Edit: or maybe that's a V8. I forget now.

That Fuel mileage for only .3 off as you say on the dash is really good for a HD gas. That average is better than the average I get in the Tundra.

One tons have better buy load, but they are ruff riding. They are terrible as a every day driver.
I have had both and would not buy another 1 ton again, unless I was going to add external fuel tank.
Personally would stick with 3/4 ton and put air bags on it.

I am towing a little bit more these days, but over the 47k mile life of my a Tundra I averaged 15.2 MPG. So far in the 2500 HD, I have averaged 14.1.

In highway it is very very close or about the same. However, if idling or around town it is thirstier by a good bit.

Best I ever got with the Tundra is 17.8 so they are pretty close on the highway, within .5 miles.

Tundra weighed 6,440 pounds bone stock with me in it, the 2500 HD weighs 7,460 bone stock with me in it just for reference.....

My 1 ton daily driver is getting the exact same MPG as the tundra..14.5mpg. I am at about 3k miles in 3 weeks. Once I hit the 5K mark and get to do some towing I will do a full write up on the pros/cons of the move from tundra to HD.

@knoxville36 - I hope you washed that beautiful truck when you got home!

GMC/Chevy with the IFS is actually pretty smooth for a HD truck. It is by no means as smooth as a 1/2 ton but you can daily drive them now. My 1 ton is comfortable, but is more comfy with some weight in the bed. If someone is just pulling a travel trailer or doesn't need 4K lbs of payload I complete agree with you that the 3/4 ton is the better option.

I joined the 3/4 ton club. But with an old 06 2500 suburban 6.0 4x4i got 17 real mpgs on a 450mile road trip! I was impressed and with 2300 lbs payload. But i still love my tundra, every vehicle has its purpose.
