All a Y'all with your fancy, expensive mountain bikes. I'm still rocking my Singlespeed, Rigid GT Peace I bought 11 years ago. It's my trusty steed.

    20210411_160034.jpg

Despite its simplicity, the Peace RIPS singletrack. With zero drivetrain loss or gear skipping, and being fully rigid, it climbs like a mountain goat, provided you have the leg strength to muscle your way up. I usually run out of gear on long, straight downhills, though, so other bikes are faster in those situations. I do prefer tight, twisty singletrack for that reason, as speeds are necessarily lower, and the bike is right at home.

Almost no maintenance on this beast, too. In 11 years I've replace the tires once (they're due for replacement again, they're starting to scrub out during high speed turns on singletrack), and I JUST replaced the bottom bracket and a broken spoke for the first time last week. Wheel hubs have been serviced once. Oh, and this bike has seen plenty of technical riding, with some airtime, too. Lack of expensive components means maintenance requirements are almost nil.

3049817B-4980-460B-9105-602EBE364C40.jpg Definitely love the single speeds BUT with all the roots and rocks it became an exercise in masochism. It really rocks on smooth flowing single track (not much of that in NY).

And unfortunately that vast majority of trials being built in the area are all catering to the aggressive side of riding. Definitely more advanced skills required. Getting a flow can be very difficult due to the steepness and technical features.

I'm lucky I've got a couple of fantastic flowy trails in a provincial park pretty close to my house. One is 8.5km (5.2mi) of tight, windy, flowy singletrack, with a few rocky/rooty climbs/descents. I consider it my local trail, two laps of it is just about right.

Another trail not too far away is far more technical, but I love riding it, as it pushes my boundaries, especially on a SS rigid bike. Nothing improves your riding more than riding a SS Rigid on technical stuff.

Virgin ride for the 9 yo on the Ripcord. 7 miles and about 3500 ft of climbing. Most likely his longest ride so far. He did awesome and not a single complaint.

Yeah. He loves riding and been doing it a few years now. He saw the reward for the work also which was fun to watch.

Added some bling bling today...it’s bling worthy however it’s a very good upgrade. The difference in stiffness and dampening over an aluminum bar seems to be significant. I have to take it on a real ride and not just hoping stairs. I feel it’s going to be worthy of the money especially with shoulder issues and the weight savings. I am not a weight weenie but saving weight is never a bad thing...

Hey there I see you have your mtb over the tailgate with a topper on your truck. Does that work out ok as far as the rear window staying secure? I’m looking at toppers and wanna make sure I can transport my bikes over tail gate still.
