My 2013 rock warrior limited had gray leather seats and they held up pretty well. I have 3k miles in my platinum and feel like the driver seat is very wrinkled and lost its shine from getting in and out. So much so that I don’t slide down the seat like I used to in my 2013 instead I step up first then get out. Love the feel of the leather but do question it’s durability.

I have a 2016 GS350 F Sport with Flaxin colored leather and those seats still look brand new granted I never slide down the seat...

    I can't believe I'm responding to a post from 2016. LOL!

Anyways, the OP was asking about the leather holding up on a Platinum vs. a Limited, and long term wear. I don't have both unfortunately for comparison, so this is my opinion on leather, but I've only had my truck for 14 months.

I test drove a Platinum and an OR Limited in early 2018. The Platinum seat leather felt more supple, however, the seats comfort felt exactly the same in both models, as it should since I doubt the cushions were any different. Was the leather nicer in the Platinum? Yes! I liked the pleated look and like I said, it felt better to the touch. That being said, I bought the limited, not because I like the leather better in the Limted, but because the negotiated price difference was $5K, that's all we could get them down to. Hell, for $1500 I could have Katzkins installed if I'm not happy with the Limited leather. I had Katzkins in my Tacoma and they were awesome. I've had my truck now for 14 months, I've cleaned and conditioned my seats a few times and I actually really like my leather. It feels decent, shows absolutely no signs of wear, wrinkles, or abnormalities of any kind. I don't think the Limited is supposed to be luxurious, I think it's supposed to look good, feel good, and be tough. 2 out of 3 aint bad.

As a side note, my 2009 Honda Civic EX-L (purchased new in 2009) with 172K miles - the leather looks fantastic. No tears, no wrinkles, starting to show a slight fading on the piping on one bolster, but still looks great. I know how to take care of leather, I clean and condition all of my seats (and steering wheel leather), even though only the drivers seat gets used. I guess I'm not too picky about the the type of leather in vehicles I buy, only that over time, I get used to the material and seat comfort. I surely wouldn't buy the Platinum just for the leather, I'd buy and SR5 and upgrade to the leather and save some coin.
    Again, just my thoughts.

Turns out the Platinum has different leather AND cushions. Ronan recently confirmed it in another thread.

I have sat in both and found the Platinum more comfortable personally.

Good to know, I personally couldn't tell the difference as far as comfort goes. Thanks for the confirmation. May be worth it for some folks to test drive the Platinum if the SR5/Limited seats are too hard or uncomfortable.

I feel as though the seats in my limited are not as comfortable as the Platinum or 1794. I doubt the leather has anything to do with that; my guess is the cushions are different.

When talking luxury, I’m only talking with regards to the Tundra. The Platinum/1794 is the luxury version. Limited is close, I just don’t like the seats. The Pros have a hardcore following, here in Utah it’s a $3K “market” mark up, I’m not paying that.

I did look at other brands, specifically eyed the new GMC AT4. But at the end of the day, I felt at the price point I wanted and the design/features I wanted, the Tundra beat out the competition. MPG does suck though!

I have not had any issues with the seats in my Platinum. 41,000 miles on my 2015. I do like the seats.

When I owned my 2018 Limited I always wished I had gotten the Platinum instead. That damn cement color tricked me, though...

Edit: Just realized this is a 3-year-old thread. Here's to raising the dead.

I chose the Limited models leather seats for a few reasons. Most of them based off of my own experience in the car business. For background I am in the business of leather, vinyl (fo-leather products), And fabric repair. In short I repair tears in the leather, vinyl and fabric seats, headliners etc. Re-dying, minor color changes and so on for used car dealers. I drive hundreds of vehicles a week repairing all types of leather and vinyl seats from all manufacturers. I avoided the fabric seats in an SR5 as they stain far to easy And are far too difficult to keep clean over the life of the vehicle. I also chose not to have an aftermarket leather kit installed (katzkinz etc) because they are not very durable with the amount of mileage I will put on the vehicle. They have a tendency to get several cracks in the vinyl panel on the outside of the seat in time no matter the quality of the after market kit. I stayed away from the 1794 edition because the leather and color, just like that in the King Ranch Ford's will wear out and fade at a much quicker rate than that of the platinum and limited leather. When it came down to choosing a platinum versus a limited I felt both leathers would hold up for my needs (200k plus miles over the life of the vehicle) I like the looks of the platinum seats better, but it came down to comfort for me and I felt that the seat base was more stiff in the Platinum than the Limited. So I chose the limited taking all the other factors into account also.

I just really really wish my Pro had cooled seats. It is significantly more comfortable on those long drives or on days where the weather is 80F +. As for the heated seats, if you have a remote starter, they are useless

Not necessarily. It depends on how long your drive is. For those of us with lower back problems those heated seats really loosen up the muscles on a cold day, but you gotta drive at least 15min to really get them going.

Learning something everyday. Throw in one of those cigarette lighter massage pads and you got yourself a heated massage chair!

For those concerned about seat wear from sliding into the driver's seat. The best thing for that is to get the driver's side A pillar assist handle. It helps with getting into the seat without sliding over it. It's a Sequoia part but fits perfectly in the Tundra.

I owned the 2016 limited for 6 months and hated the leather. Don't get me wrong, it's of a much tougher grade but it is hard and rugged. The bad part for me was sitting on it after a 100F day. It took forever to cool and was like sitting on a wooden bench.

I bought a 2016 Platinum which I still own and the leather is the same as my Lexus GX460 luxury trim. Is a softer and thinner grade of leather. It may not be as rugged as the Limited tundra but it's cooler to sit on on a hot day, it's perforated and feels a lot comfortable as its more soft seat like than bench like. Just my experience to help someone trying to make a decision. Not that a limited leather is bad or something but just that everyone has their own needs for buying one or the other. Peace ✌

I have a 2012 Platinum Crewmax with the perforated leather. Suggest the cooled seats. Leather is hot. I just turned over 260k and have my first crack that has become a tear below my right knee on the drivers seat.
Pretty excellent wear in my opinion.

I just sold my 18 LTZ Z71 with air conditioned leather seats and both my wife and I like the comfort of the Platinum. Also, the comfort to drive with the shifter right where my hand rest so no reaching up on the tree to shift up or down...also, the trailer brake is on right there. For me, the comfort of the Platinum and the ease of towing are far superior to the Chevy and that’s all I’ve driven for full size trucks for 35 years. Yep, I’m old. Oh, that same Chevy above, front end heavy in the snow and icy roads. My Tundra sits with the engine right over the front and I like how it corners. Not going back to a Chevy and I haven’t even mentioned the spacious back seat area for a 6’1” teenage boy and 118lb Bernadoodle. Stepping off my Tundra soapbox...back to Avalanche Hockey.

Why did the Kings give Vegas Carter. Man oh man. I am a Quick fan and my son played a little AAA Pee Wee at the Kings practice ice in El Segundo. Fun times.

Cant speak on a limited or any other trim honestly, but I do love my Platinum leather. Kept me very comfy on a 13hr trip to Kentucky and back this past week.
