Newer amenites you'd like in your 1st Gen?

I’d love to have something on the passenger side that lowers down to aid my 80 year old mother with mobility problems into my truck. Right now l just provide a plastic stepping stool I carry with me in the back of my truck so she can get into it. The old man is nimble enough to fit in the back of the AC for short trips.

It’s either that or ride with the parents in the back of the Chevy Impala with the Elvis station on Sirus blaring non-stop.

 

This 2002 Tundra AC replaced the similar vintage, but troublesome, Ford Sport Trac as side bitch to my Jeep. Three things I wish the T had that the F did: power rear window, cleats along the outside edges of the bed rails and the Ford door keypad. The Ford also had a rough compass heading and OAT readout on the rearview mirror. I'm putting in a Teltek OAT gauge to get that function back.

 

I just got a 2006 DC Limited that has heated seats, sunroof, power drivers seat, roll down back window with defrost, yada yada. Not bad for a truck, not like my Lexus SUV with a profile on the power seats & dual temp controls, navigation (that is too difficult to use), backup camera, and hybrid system. I added Bluetooth and remote start. I’d like to have all of those on my Tundra but I’ll be happy to get backup camera, cd with video screen, and remote start.

Here are some of my future mods/wants to make the truck more modern:

•Rasperry Pi Android head unit
-Will be custom-built by my friend to be however I want,
-We'd add proximity sensors and 360 camera view,
-Some kind of DVR setup to run the cameras 24/7 as a security system
•Steering wheel controls (although I'm unsure how they'd work with that head unit [would also have to solder in red LEDs to match interior lights]).
•Actually getting my key fob to work.
•Heated seats (pads are from random scrapyard car).
•Heated mirrors.
•Window tint.
•Black vinyl-wrapped interior (plastic is beige/scratched, it'll be a fun DIY).
•Footwell LED lights and under-door courtesy lights like @Professional Hand Model installed.
•El wire (those

neon tubes that run through the interior).

I think that's a solid list for now. I don't want a remote start anymore because if the truck overheated again, I'd be unable to catch it quickly. And it was terrifying last time walking out to coolant leaking and the temp gauge running all high. Unless I could figure out a temp-sensitive automatic emergency fuel pump cutoff.

 

Temp sensor and a relay. Fairly simple circuit. I'd probably wire it to trigger the shut down (brake) wire and isolate with a diode.

 

I don't know if I have the skills to craft such a setup from scratch but I'll scour the internet to see if anyone else has done it.
