This is common sense I supposed. But reminder to inspect parts before tearing truck apart to install them. I received the black TRD headlights yesterday. Boxes looked to be in good shape. Opened both boxes to look at the lights and I guess I was too distracted by how amazing they look, and didn't notice that one light had a large crack on the rear housing. Proceed to tear apart the truck to do the install, ran the harnesses, installed the passenger side, then noticed the driver's side light is cracked as I'm plugging the harness in. Dumb mistake, but maybe this PSA will prevent headache for at least one other person.

That sucks! Sorry to hear man. Nothing worse then doing all that work just to turn around and have to undo it. Where did the lights come from? Odd that the box is OK but the part isn't.

got the lights from headlight revolution, but they get them from toyota...and toyota packages them poorly. was only the cardboard and a thin layer of foam between the light and the outside world. the light was positioned in the box such that it was sitting on a corner of the housing. so when the box was dropped repeatedly during shipping, all the force was on that one corner and eventually failed.

i called HR when they opened today, and they're sending me a return label for the broken light and shipping out a new one today. until then i got this:

Damn.... I just got mine, but directly from Toyota.... will have to check them as well since I did the same thing, minus the installation since I'm waiting on the harness...... LOL... Why would they remove the cardboard backing though?? I would imagine it would make it more likely to crack the headlights.

Sorry for your troubles. Thanks for the public service announcement reminder.
On the bright side, I really like the look of the black housing lights (add to my to do list).

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
Sucks OP! They should take care of you tho.

I had a similar scenario with mine. Got the 2019 Pros brand new from Toyota. One was perfect. The other...the interior square housing/parts of the low beams was loose and only hanging on by one clip.

The dealership took care of it and I got a replacement in a few days.

I could have got a fluke one cause by shoddy craftsmanship, or it was the crap packing job.

I remember it was in just laying in the box with just a little bit of brown paper.
You’d think Toyota would take a little better care of a $300+ headlight.

My black headlights are en route as we speak. I’ll definitely make sure to do a thorough inspection before I start the install, thanks for the heads up!!

Did the same exact thing last year. Part was from Toyota cool springs. Roman from parts was fast to act.
