I just purchased a Trundra 2016 5.7L. My first question is. Can I tow a trailer that weights 8350lb?

I guess it depends on configuration of Cab 2 vs 4wd and hitch. People may need more details.

Short answer, of course you can.
    But..
I wouldn't if it's a travel trailer, my 6,200lb TT with 650-700lb tongue weight is enough for me.
I probably would if it's a dump trailer. (Depending on tongue weight)

Why do people keep asking if it can tow their trailer right after buying the truck?

Biggest limiting factor on our truck is payload. Your factory door sticker will tell you what yours is. 4WD is a negative in this case because it weighs more and reduces payload.

The trailer hitch weight is usually about 10% of the trailer weight itself. You will likely be pushing it once you add all the weight of all passengers and bed cargo.

It’s fine. Go slow, use a WDH if you have one. The shorter the trip, the better

What no one ever says though is that if you are over on your payload or weight limits you accept all liability. So don't get in a wreck because if the do the math you'll be getting no financial or legal help.

I'm not going to post my policy . Don't be lazy, Google it yourself or use common sense.

But to break it down, your breaking laws, so do you think your insurance will cover you?

Okay. I won’t use my 12 years experience as a civil litigator handling cases that include crashes involving overloaded vehicles.

Ever heard of people causing a wreck while driving under the influence of alcohol? Last I checked that was illegal yet the insurance carriers continue to pay the claims.

From Lawyers. Take it or leave it. Check your ratings for your truck, weigh it, and make an informed decision.

Ok fine, if this is your job, do you have any cases of pp
It's not just will your insurance cover it, but if you're found negligent and damage other peoples property and/or injury, then you'll be spending lots of time in civil court working through this issue and can report back and let us know.

ANYWAY, The OP's trailer is within the max towing capacity, and assuming it's over payload doesn't help anything right now. Especially not in a thread that is meant to welcome a new comer. Let's be on our best behavior, Gents.

Had mediation for a wreck caused by an overloaded Ford Ranger on Monday... the insurance carrier is paying for the defense of the lawsuit and the damages for the claim.

Of course a person is at fault for their negligence assuming it causes damages - the question was do they void insurance coverage by towing over the manufacturer’s rating.

    OP,
I suspect you’ll be close to or over payload capacity. Hit a scale to verify you aren’t over GVWR or your rear axle rating. (See door jamb on driver’s door for your ratings)

    Welcome! :)

You will need a weight distribution hitch but yes, you should be fine. 8300lbs is more or less maxing out your truck.
