What is this little disconnected cable and rod contraption on the left side of the passenger floor? Is it bad that it's not connected to anything?

Might be your Mixing/Bending Door cable. Observe the broken end whilst twisting the Blend Mode Knob. See if it moves and thats what it attaches to.

The rod is definitely not connected to Blend Mode Knob. Rotating that knob doesn't affect the rod and connector at all.

    Any other ideas?

Looks like it connects to the temperature blend door.

Here's how my access cab looks.
