So, after looking around, chatting with a few "off-road" shops, I've pulled the trigger on Deaver U748 springs. A little more pricey than I was hoping, especially w/ new shackles and all, but I think this will set me up for any build moving forward -- and if I end up towing a mega trailer or pop in a camper, I can always ad airbags or sumos... But for now, I say build the base right, and don't look back.

I would say that’s the right decision. If you’re going to mess with the leaf spring, either replace the whole thing or don’t touch it.

Good choice! I was going to recommend taking a look at the Icon RXT pack that has 3 different spring rates. You may have researched this option. You won't be disappointed with the Deavers. I personally don't have them, but haven't heard a negative review.

After all, who likes a saggy rear end ;)

Get an AAL. I was very pleased with the minimal amount of sag.. Pretty sure this tongue weight was more than the gear you mentioned.

What do you have up front? I'm afraid the front end may looks super low now. The shop I'm going with recommended going with a spacer kit. They (the owner) and I NEVER go that route, but i figured the Pro Suspension isn't clapped, so why spend money if I don't have to. I'm just a little worried I may trash the front end with my aggressive driving.

You do not want to put a spacer with your pro shocks. Never add bottom tier products to a very good product for no gain

I'm late to the party but I'll post. Do you want your rear end to remain the same height when you are NOT towing or loaded? If yes, airbags is what you wanna get.. Shackles, AAL, or a new leaf pack will either change your ride comfort in the rear or leave your ass stuck up in the rear when your unloaded..

edit: you shouldn't have any air in the bags unless your loaded. With the exception of 5 psi that Firestone recommends.

Most folks with non trd pros who lift the front 2-3” will lift the rear with shackles like has been mentioned. Check out coach builder, toytec , or bossoffroad (along with poly bushings for whichever). It won’t make the truck ride harsher when unloaded like oversprung leafs or inflated airbags would, but keeps the sag to a reasonable amount of up travel when weighed down. Lots of options depending on your needs, priorities, and budget. Good luck!

I added a Leer Topper and a Prinsu on the topper noticed almost an inch of sag, add my three dogs (~250lbs) and I felt like I was repping the Carolinas. I had a ReadyLift +2 that I was debating selling and just put the rear two inch blocks on, now I sit at about one inch rake and almost level again when the doggos are in the back. I'll probably switch the blocks out to bags or shackles someday.

For all you haters, lovers and/or appreciators, here's what I ultimately went with: my original add-a-leaf (two to be exact) and keeping the front as is stock. I know have 2 1/4" rake completely empty (essentially looks like an sr5 rake but 4" taller). Weighted down doesn't change much -- maybe an inch. Pretty stoked on how it looks and doubly stoked I didn't spend three time what I paid for a new leafs pack.

** New leafs are 2nd and 4th from bottom.

It feels great! Took a few big hits on the freeway coming home and the suspension ate it up and snapped right back into place.

I've run the same set of firestone riderite airbags and airlift compressor for 4 years on 2 tundras with thousands of miles towing a camper and hauling sleds on a sled deck with no issues. Given I also do have CB shackles, but the air bags are what really holds the weight. I highly recommend them.

IMG_20210515_201800_2.jpg Dobinson's HD leaf packs, yellow Sumo springs for bump stops, Roadmaster HD active suspension to keep my nice curvature for a long time on the leaf packs. Bilstein 5160s with res. for the shocks. This truck isn't squatting much regardless of what you load on it, rides nice, much like stock but higher of course and it has the ability to carry the payload and keep the headlights in focus.

Edit: Ironman greasable shackles and bushings, brake relocate, carrier bearing drop. Dobinson's u bolts. BDS traction bars to control axle wrap.

I have a whole bunch of spring, no harsh ride, just as good as stock, it's all about good shocks coupled with the springs.

I finally ordered a second set of sumo springs, cut them down to bumpstop height. Now happy! I can swap them in 5 minutes to the full height set when we hook up the trailer

honestly sumos are brutal for daily driving when empty. I would do RAS if i could start over

I’ve really enjoyed this thread. Curious if I could chime in for advice based on comments from my mechanic:
    1) Told me NOT to add shackles under any circumstances. Didn’t really have a chance to get into why. Any thoughts? This is an off-road truck shop, so they do have some clout in my mind.
    2) They told me to just add a leaf or two. Everyone on here (most, anyway) have said that adding a leaf is pretty much guaranteed to get squeaking. I hate things like incessant squeaking. Currently thinking I’ll add the icon RXT rear leaf spring set, but of course would love to save money if the add a leaf concept can be done confidently.

My Dobinson's HD leaf packs don't squeak. They are not a whole bunch of fun to install, quite heavy, that said I am very much pleased. Expensive, yes, good things are not cheap, cheap things are not good.

RAS is kicking ass, don't throw in the towel. I have it and Sumo springs, plus HD leaf packs. You can achieve greatness with a Tundra.

for my 4k lb trailer and full bed, i really like the light sumos, perfect for smoothing out the weight. They just suck for daily.

In my case, they are like bump stops, I have a 2" gap to the frame. That means, they don't suck as a daily, and they are actually better because it's not a solid bump stop, slowly compresses so there is no harsh impact at all regardless of the load. Truth is, I think my truck probably rides even better than stock again regardless of loaded or empty. I expected stiff, nope, Cadillac all day.

Serious off-roaders, like guys that beat on truck suspension shy away from longer shackles because they are a weak point and the longer they are, the weaker they are.

Sometimes the info on these forums can be tricky on what to believe, lots of people only read and don't post... I've had an AAL since 2014 and I don't have any squeaking..

coach builder shackles are so much heavier duty than stock. The difference between a twig and a 2x4
