yeah that was me. They took the time to mask the rails vs install the rails after they bedline it?

 

It’s purposely left unsprayed underneath the rails to ensure a flat fit.

I don’t buy it. It sits on 5 high spots. Not the whole length.

 

I would rather have the rails against the paint than bedliner myself. Many pics ive seen on this site have been sprayed like that

those rails cost $160. The cap installer should have used toyota specific clamps that used the rail system so you still had the tie downs avail

 

It looks identical to my 2010 that I took the rails off of to install a cap. I sold it otherwise I’d post a photo.

 

I’m sure they do it the same for all trucks. Mine wasn’t really missed. I just think it’s lazy.

 

My 2020 was Line-X'ed when it arrived from the port and I have Line-X behind my rails. My 2013 was the same way.

 

Glad to hear this, I was about to go check mine because I would not be happy to see that once I drop the rails for a tonneau.

 

Toyota seems pretty lazy with this option. If you get bed liner w/o the rails they leave the holes filled with the paper they stuff in the hole to prevent it from coating the threads. Some people get theirs with the rails and they dont remove them and coat over them. Ive also seen a few beds with the back tie down uncoated and a few with them coated.

 

My front tie downs are coated. The backs are painted.

 

Same as mine, but I sold some parts to a local about a month ago and all of his were coated.

 

Is this something that is done at the build site, or is it contracted out?

 

After port arrival from my understanding. When I ordered it was listed under port options.

I'm not certain what "port" suggests, sorry. I'm under the impression that the vehicles are made almost entirely in the U.S., or that the cargo boxes are. Is it known if they're shipped to an assembly plant and lined there, or is that something that's done after the box is on the chassis...or even later? I'm trying to decern if this process is done under Toyota's watch, or if it's done after leaving final assembly yet prior to a dealer. Perhaps a distribution point? I'm trying to determine if maybe there are several non-Toyota companies that are doing this. That could account for the inconsistencies.

 

Put the rails back on and use some of these to mount the cap to the rails instead?

Also I agree that's very lazy and shouldn't have happened. Helped my buddy install an OEM Toyota tri-fold tonneau a few weeks ago and there was liner behind his rails but I believe it was aftermarket and not factory.

 

Port typically means after it is built and before it reaches the dealership. The Tundra is probably delivered entirely by fleet trucks and not by ship, I could be wrong there, but port is usually a term used with the vehicle arrives by boat at a port. So, it has already been built and then the accessories are added. If you look up the 4Runner Pros in shipment there are pictures of them without the TRD wheels and badges, as those are all installed after it arrives stateside.

I noticed that when I was purchasing my truck as well. If its a factory liner, that's how its done vs liners done at port / dealer. Another indicator is the factory has the "TUNDRA" stamp added to the cab / front side of the bed. Not a fan of how the factory liner went around the rails and also have the front tie downs sprayed but the rear painted, I thought it looked inconsistent especially on white. I decided the better option for me was to save $ omitting the factory liner and go Line-X or similar down the road with the lifetime warranty.

 

My truck has everything sprayed, including all the fasteners. If you buy a naked truck and take it to LineX they'll remove everything first, then reinstall it.

 

Opinion: the problem was the canopy installer cheaping out and not using the track system brackets.

 

Mine was naked and done via Line-X dealer. They did NOT remove all the bolts and tie downs, but did remove the Rail System.

 

Mine was sprayed on as a “port” option and was not sprayed behind the rail system. The front tie down hooks were sprayed while the back ones, near the tailgate, were removed prior to spraying and are white.

I don’t really give a shit either way as the rail system won’t be coming off.

 

"Port" is the distribution center for each region. Although not necessarily a ship port, the word port refers to point of entry. Toyota is unique in that they have the country divided in several regional distribution areas (franchises actually), such as SouthEast (FL, NC, SC, AL, GA), Gulf States (OK, TX, MS, LA, AR) etc. All vehicles are transported from the factories to these ports. and then from there to the dealers. The ports install options, such as bed liners. Sometimes if the port did not install a bedliner, the dealer might decide to install it, but the Toyota Factory does not install bedliners.

I dont think Toyota sprays on that liner at all.
I think the term Bedliner means the drop in plastic liners and they are then removed by Line-X or whoever sprays the bed later at whatever time it is done.
At that time they either remove the rails or not but this is the sad result of someone clearly not removing them at all.
I bet it takes as long to mask them off well as it would to remove them to do the job correctly too.
