PA highways were the worst for bed bounce IME. Had to pull over and questioned if something was wrong after getting my FWC installed without overload springs. I have heavy duty leafs and poly bushings now. With the camper bed bounce is very minimal. Without it it’s bouncy all the time. I love the truck ride.

Hmm I've never seen this on my truck. The bed has very minimal movement to it on almost all roads, and I'm always checking my mirrors, the only thing that shakes on my truck sometimes is the rear double wide seat, the single one doesn't shake, but its nothing you can feel in the cab or see on the bed. Now my 7.3 on the other hand...... she really like to shake her ass :p

Ok, traded out the stock Bilstein shocks for some Bilstein 5100 struts and shocks. Work moved a little bit so I hadn't been on the interstates which makes me really love the truck again but I had time today so I took it on some. With the new strut/shocks the bounce isn't gone.. but for my case it's much better. It's less pronounced and drives much more like a full size truck as opposed to a cinder block on some of the concrete sections. Like I said I can still feel it but it's so much better than the leveling kit and stock shocks/struts that the dealership had on it when I bought it. And I now have some OEM Tundra shock/struts if anyone in the SLC area needs them.

Is bed bouce the random "all 4 wheels lost their counter weights at the same time" feeling? The steering wheel doesn't shake, the truck does.

Others can probably explain it better than this but to me it’s not like a wheel weight missing. The wheel does not shake. It’s really the bed moving up and down in very small increments at a high rate to the point you feel your knees starting to bounce up and down if you are relaxing. The road can look smooth as hell. Wife’s hate it if you know what I mean. My kids knees and legs in the back seat would bounce worse like a half inch up and down really fast.

I've got 300lbs in my bed so that probably dampens it. But I think I understand what you're saying. When I said "wheel weighs fell off" I meant my body feels the jostle that my hand normally feels when out of balance.

Hmmm, these last few descriptions make me think I’ve never actually experienced it. Mine has never felt outside the bounds of a normal unloaded half ton. :notsure:

I’ve driven thousands of miles of washboard roads in a number of different pickups. I’ve driven concrete freeways in a number of different vehicle types. I can’t see where the Tundra's that bad, but that’s just me.

I don't know what bed bounce is. I'm asking if what I'm feeling is bed bounce.

This is my first truck and I'm experiencing a lot of new things in my 13 crewmax and I'm not sure if it's normal or problems to solve.

Same here. I’ve driven trucks for 20 years and have lived in several states between Louisiana and California. I’m not convinced bed bounce is abnormal/real. I suspect it’s just an unloaded truck interacting with the road surface at speed. It may also have to do with driver expectations.

only pronounced for me at time I was overloaded and on bad concrete joints. can slow down a bit to lessen the effect. nothing crazy otherwise. think some folks are probably more sensitive to it than others.

I knew a guy that had a 2017 Ford Focus RS. That thing was a pogo stick with a steering wheel on concrete roads. He would always say it wasn't "that bad", but I'd get nauseous...

I haven't felt anything nearly that bad in my Tundra yet... But maybe I've been de-sensitized after riding with him? ;)

Have no clue what you all are talking about. I live in Florida with lots of concrete roadways and have never had any bed bounce. Took a 3k round trip up the east coast and never felt a thing. My Tundra is smooth as silk on all highways where I’m at.

The bed bounce in Colorado is from letting road crews drink on the job! On top of that you've got the entire country moving here all at once and the roads were not made to handle this much load!:annoyed::bikewhoops::bikewhoops::bikewhoops::bikewhoops:

Ok so it seems this is a problem mainly in Colorado (my state), and I've especially noticed it on concrete roads going between 70-80 mph. Has anyone from Colorado found any type of solution? I've tried sandbags but haven't noticed anything.

No solution found here. I added 6112 @ 1.9, 5150's with poly bushing in the shackle lift, a topper, and even with weight in the bed and occupants in the truck it still gets the "undulation" going at certain speeds on certain sections of highway. When driving up to ski there is a concrete length a mile long heading west just after rounding the corner below Floyd Hill where it gets the bounce going pretty good. Some of these sections are not just tundra problems as you can see other cars "bobbing" and it was a problem in my WRX and STI as well. I never noticed it in my 2012 pilot. You actually hit a dip in the middle of this stretch and it temporarily "resets" the resonating bounce momentarily then builds again. I believe it is a perfect storm of wheel base and an UP/DOWN sensation going over the concrete panels.

It is slightly better than it was stock, but it still bothers me.

6x60lb bags over the rear axle. I’ve driven cross country from North Carolina to Arizona/California and then to Florida and back to Colorado. But I’ve only ever noticed it on Colorado concrete highways. Seems like I have two options, just deal with it or buy a new truck lol

need to move two per side all the way to the rear on each side, between the wheel well and tailgate, so pretty much the far back corners of the bed .

this is better for bed bounce, axle hop is different

My son bought 2021 Ram Rebel. I thought this truck would not have the bounce since it's suppose to be the smoothest riding truck. The truck does ride better than the Tundra but on really bad highways like down south in L.A area it also seems to have the bounce like the Tundra.

On my 2008 the bed bounce was horrible.

    Fixed with the following:

    - New bilstein shocks
    - Installed the Toyota bed mount set per their TSB (ie. under the bed), this is likely included in newer Tundras
    - Coachbuilder shackles & poly bushings

It was the worst on sections of Hwy 15 in San Diego.

I have a crewmax and the bounce was crappy on concrete highway joints when stock. With 6112/5160s, 17s and 33s it still bounces but a lot less. Im going to swap out OE shackle bushings with poly bushings and see how that works. I would swap out shackles with CB shackles but don't need rear lift.

3 months later checking back in with the 5100s. While the bed bounce didn't go away it has been a much, much more pleasant on highway driving experience. Almost to the point where I forgot I posted on here looking for advice. It gets a little rougher if it's really cold but still not as bad as it was. Warm weather it's a non issue save for some spots where the road sucks for everyone.

I have, but not in my Tundra.

I've owned a 2013 F150 and a 1995 F250. Both were worse than my Tundra - in the case of the F250, it was *FAR* worse. There's a stretch of road near here that was so bad I'd slow down to 50 mph on the interstate to avoid it....the Tundra just sort of ignores it.

Where I used to live (Arkansas), there was a stretch of I-40 outside of Memphis that was SO bad in my F250 that I had to slow down to below about 60 mph or my head would hit the ceiling, regardless of whether or not I had my seatbelt on. LOL

I can't speak for others, but generally I've noticed the issue has been more pronounced in extended cab/SuperCab/double cab configurations than in Quad Cab/CrewMax configurations.

Howdy neighbor - I drive that section of the 15 every day. That’s how I find myself here! Recommend a mechanic in the area? Once I settle on a solution that’s the first thing I have to get fixed on my new (to me) tundra.
