I have nitro 5.29 gears installed with 33" tires and I hit the limiter at around 102 mph. My truck is supercharged but that shouldn't make a difference for when the limiter kicks in.

Didn’t your SC tuner remove the governor due to the SC? Are you planning to remove the governor?

I have a TRD branded Magnusson and hence the TRD tune. I would have removed the limiter if that was an option.

The limiter cuts gas and it feels like it; it's like hitting a wall. It doesn't hold at a particular speed like in your description.

Ok, now I understand. The reason why I were inquiring is that I have looked into getting the Magnuson SC in recent months. Their website stated that their tuner would allow customers to remove the governor and rev limiter. So, that’s why I thought that it would be a standard option with all sc for Tundras.

    thanks for the clarification.

I see. I’ve always hit the governor with my trucks. I have a lead foot. :) The experiences that I have been having with this particular upgrade is consistent with the governor. But it is more pronounced than prior to regearing. It sorta felt like when my VSC kicks in and the truck is being pulled back.

Yes, think the speed limit needs raised but not sure, just did it. For wheeling my tune is corrected for gears and tires, speed limiter raised, 4 LO limits removed, aip limp mode disabled, redline and knock system raised 200 rpm(fun to make ricer noises), with a few transmission tweaks to smooth out shifting.
No issues for me. Raising it not removing.

OMFG!!!! My truck is back baby! Flashed it this morning and just came back from a test drive. Mashed that skinny pedal with no issues and the speedometer is on the money too. Can't wait to test bumping the truck in 4Lo. Best $500 spent.

Just curious for those of you running 37's or 39's. Have you ever checked the speed rating for those tires?

You're going to go on a hell of a ride if a 39 came apart north of 100. Hopefully no one else will be in your way.

My previous set of 37s were Cooper STT Pros and they're rated at 99mph but I've gone higher than that for long periods of time (driving to Vegas) and never had problems. Although I did blow out a tire going 65mph :notsure:

I just got mine in today. Getting ready to do the update to the program, then tune my truck.

did you have to add credits to your tuner before updating the tuner?

I purchased the credits at the same time I bought the unit. When you go to write to the ECU is when you use the credits.

I have been told by a manager at Tire Kingdom that the speed ratings on tires are the limits on the tires for the maximum speed driven continuously for a minimum of one hour. Therefore, unless you’re driving on the autobahn where there are no speed limits and no cops to pull you over, it’s highly unlikely that you can drive any vehicle at say 99mph continuously for one hour straight.

speed ratings are guidelines for the tires.

So with the gear ratio change and tire size, even though your speedo says 90 its most likely 105 mph ... check with GPS data to confirm

My Garmin says that I’m doing 93mph whenever my Speedo say that I’m doing 88mph. So, I think that I’m about 5mph faster than my Speedo with 5.29 gears and 35” tires.

Your Speedo is always going to give you a slower speed than what you’re actually doing whenever you go bigger tires than stock. From my experience, the GPS is usually a bit more accurate than the speedo at that point in time. I may get a calibrator or something like that in the future.

You won’t need a calibrator once you enter the correct tire radius and gear ratio with the HPT.

My speedometer is off, not sure how much. Need to check I guess, but truck is down for repairs this week. This is the owner of HP Tuners for reference -

I have both an aftermarket stereo head unit and a Garmin gps/lane departure/dashcam. Both the stereo gps (Pioneer) and the Garmin are within 1mph of each other. Sometimes they are identical to each other. That’s usually whenever the sky is crystal clear and without any other interference from other objects.

however, my stock Speedo is never correct. So, I’m planning on using my HP Tuners to recalibrate that as well. I’ll do so later on in the week.
