I have learned to really appreciate Sony’s colors and am quite used to fixing the skin tones at this point. In fact they have improved over the generations. That said, Canon color, out of the box, is easily the best for skin tones.

I used Canon gear professionally up to the 5Diii which is now gathering dust. My employees still use canon gear on the job site as they are super durable for the kind of environment they are being used in. That said I personally use only Sony gear now for everything, Especially travel.

UPDATE: After a LOT of hemming and hawing, I bought a R5 kit with the lens. Way the hell over budget. The crazy thing is that is was my wife who was pushing for me to get it. I read a lot of comparisons between it and the Mk IV and it ended up winning out (with my wife's approval) I found a reputable authorized Canon dealer in Ohio that actually had one in stock and it should be here tomorrow. I'm pretty damn excited. I appreciate everybody's opinions and help.

Well, congrats and know I am thoroughly jealous. That is the one I would have grabbed given the budget and wife's approval. The first would be easier than the second to get... lol

Yep, I was surprised she wanted me to spend that much. Then I realized Mother's Day is coming up...

Good choice, you’re moving into the future with that investment instead of being stuck in the past.

I would stick with Canon if you have a few lenses so that you can go up the scale for the body. Starting over with another brand is always more money.

I did - I ended up with the R5. I'll get an adapter soon for my old lenses but not in a big hurry. It arrived today and I have the battery charging... So excited to start shooting. It's a beast.
I ended up buying it off eBay from a store in Ohio called "Pixel Connection." They are an authorized Canon dealer (so no grey label or price markup) and shipped it fast & free. The big camera places (adorama & bh) didn't have it in stock but I think it worked out well. I won't hesitate to buy from them again.

It was raining all day and I didn't feel like testing out how waterproof it is but I took some quick pictures this evening on it's Auto setting just to see what it can do. Holy crap, this thing is amazing. The viewfinder is very crisp. You do see some blur when you move it quickly but the lag is pretty imperceptible. I'm reading the book, figuring it all out. Anyways, here are a few untouched pics that I took around the outside of the house this evening.

    Congrats!

I love, love my Canon 7D. Sold all my lens including my macro lens to help with the down payment of my first house. Still have one lens 17-40 L though

Awesome camera! It’s so nice when you’re buying something for your hobby and the wife wants you to buy the one that costs the most.
