Bought a Bak Flip MX4 without rail lowering clamps. Made three precise cuts on each box and !!!!! It all fits and works great! Pics attached

 

Hi! My husband just got a 2021 Tundra trail edition and was so disappointed when he found out the hard cover wouldn’t work with the storage boxes in the bed. I would love to surprise him with this cover. Do I need to purchase the deck rails too? Thanks!

 

Hi....He's going to Love it! No...don't order rails (They would need to come out if they were there). When you order the BakFlip it asks if you have rails. Even if you did, you should order "without rails" as the clamps that come with the "rail" kit wont work with the installed Trail boxes. The supplied clamps with the "No rail" kit will work with minor modification to the boxes. Here is another page on here that gives a better look and a bit more detail on the installation. Not difficult at all, just takes a bit of additional time and energy but so worth it! Good Luck!

I apologize if this is provocative...but do a little more research prior to purchasing Bakflip MX4. Mine is garbage and multiple pieces have fallen off with minimal use...I couldn’t be more disappointed and frustrated with them as a company. Additionally their customer service is very difficult to reach and not very helpful. The way it functions is great though...

 

Information is always good to have! Provocative or not . It's too bad you've had that experience. I'm on my third truck and third BakFlip and have never had an issue (Other than some fading on the first one after 6 years) with any of them. Never had a need to contact customer service so can't comment on that. I hope they take care of you and that it turns out you just got a bad unit. It sucks to pay that much for something and have it be below par.

 

A few of my family members and I have owned them before in the past and they’ve been excellent. I am not sure if it is true but I heard the company was sold a few years back (prior to the coronavirus).

At this point I just gave up in the sense of recouping ANYTHING from BakFlip...they got me good. So I figured I would post negatively anytime I see anything about them.

And another crazy tidbit about their customer service...When you Google, Duck Duck, etc it takes you to BakFlip main site. Here’s the kicker...the number listed on their main site only brings you to a company called Real Truck who have been kinda nasty too. FYI they have nothing to do with BakFlip customer service.

i removed the deck rail system today in anticipation of the tonneau cover arriving tomorrow
