I'm working on my lighting as I've started driving much more at night. I currently have Baja Designs squadron sports in amber driving combo in my bumper and am planning on some ditch/side lights later. The third and final light I want is a spot pattern that gives me distance which would be nice to have in the deserts and wide open of west Texas.
I'm looking for the farthest reaching spot lights (pair) for around $400.
    My current options are:
    - Baja XL sports in high speed spot. Can be had for $350. 3,150 lumens and 6 degree beam
    - Vision X 4.7" CG2 light cannon. A little more at ~$500. 3k lumens and I think 10 degree beam
    - Rigid has some D-series in hyperspot. Less at $300. 1,760 lumens and 11 degree beam

    Any other recommendations?

    Bump.
Any other ideas for distance lights?

Also, any reviews on VisionX? (I think @GiantsFanDan has or had some)

Good call. I thought I had looked at them, but I just rechecked and their spot is a 6 degree beam.

Nice. I was going to buy Baja squadrons but a guy on Tacoma world has a huge light thread where he tests tons of lights from drop in bulbs to sealed units maybe see if you can find that I’m sure he has most of what you’re interested in see what’s the best for you.

Yeah, I've seen that one, but at least the one I'm thinking of is for SAE fogs. I'm not concerned with these being road-legal.

He has everything from legal to off-road to headlights etc if I remember right. Sorry man wish I can give more info. My old job use to be a vendor for vision X and we used them on all our heavy equipment up in the Arctic where it’s dark all the time they had some awesome visibility and built to last.

Yes I still have them. Bought them used and still going strong. They are the 4.5's and use lights when in dusty trails with amber wide flood covers from Vision X. Vision X has lots of different pattern lens and in different colors too.

Only photo I could find when it’s darker out. This is with all my lights on but 2 Vision X 4.5’s. 30in rigid light bar, 2 Baja squadron sports, and 2 Baja s2 sports are on.

Check out Black Oak LED. They have some 40w 2” LED pods (4-10w Cree) that put out 3,120 lumens with a 10* spot beam. I have bought multiple sets from them for the Jeep I used to have. Right now I have the 10* spots on my front bumper and diffused flush mounts in my rear bumper. These lights are very bright and throw light a great distance. They also have great customer service. I recommend you at least checking them out.

Thanks for the review. I like that they use modern LED's and optics in a classic round shape.
Hmmm, poorly translated description, but the range looks good.
I looked at these for a minute, but they didn't list the beam pattern angle. I'll look back and see if I can find it.

I have XL's with the spot lens - they are like lasers in the night. Plus for these is the lens are changeable based on your wheeling plans, you can change from hyper spot to driving combo to wide and back to hyper spot as needed.

@RepeatPete please excuse the amateur YT videography, but I did put together a small comparison between some BD XL Racers and Diode Dynamics SS3 Pros in a spot pattern. If you want a TIGHT beam pattern (less light spill) my top 2 are the Diode Dynamics SS3s in a spot and the Rigid Industries Hyperspots. If you are okay with a little bit of light spill to the sides the VisionX light cannon and the Baja Designs XL series of lights are great lights as well.

ya that’s weird I just looked, seems like they changed their website a bit. Don’t hesitate to email them and ask for specifics, like I’ve done in the past. They usually will give you some sort of discount code as well, if you ask.

Excellent comparison video. Videos like this are really hard to find, and extremely valuable before we spend our hard earned money. Those Baja Design XL are impressive.

Have you upgraded or retrofitted your main headlights? I did mine with bi-xenon low/highs and dedicated LED spot high beams. They reach OUT there and don't take up any room on the front of the truck. The low beam improvement alone for town driving is worth it.

I have not. I'm planning on getting the Alpharex pro series headlights. They only have a halogen low beam but an LED high beam, and I may upgrade the low beam to LED down the road. The headlights will be my middle zone, I will put a wide cornering lens on my current squadron sports, and then something for distance.
Have any pictures of your retrofit?

I just retrofitted my main headlights to bi-xenon projectors with Phillips Osram CBI D2S bulbs and installed the DD pro fog lights. First photo is just the projectors, last photo is with the fog lights turned on.

This. I also have bixenon retrofits mini d2s 4.0 from morimoto, with CBIs powered by denso ballasts.. that setup will handle a majority of your driving flawlessly. And you'll definitely use that 1000 dollar mod more than any other 1000 you spend on light bars. If retrofitting is too challenging, morimoto's xb headlights are a very good alternative. And then you can fill in light pods/bars as needed where you dont have enough light.
