Hey guys, my wife drives a 2015 Toyota Highlander AWD which has about 130k on it. Over the last month or so a sound has been coming from what appears to be the front left tire. A whomp, whomp, whomp sound that starts off slow and speeds up as the car does. It’s the worst on left turns and braking. I rotated all tires and the sound didn’t change, so I am thinking it’s the wheel bearing/hub, but I wanted to check with you guys first. Here’s a few videos below (just listen to audio).
    Any ideas would be great!!

If you had not said you swapped the tires around I would have said it sounds like you have a really bad tire or rim that is out of round. When you turned to the left I would say it sounded like a wheel bearing. Having it be that loud when driving straight seemed odd to me but I've never let it go that long when hearing a bearing issue. FYI, I also have a 2015 Toyota Highlander Limited. I had a wheel bearing go around 35,000 miles on my Highlander. I believe it was a left rear wheel bearing and never sounded as bad as yours. It did sound similar to the turning left recording. The funny thing is the dealership replaced the wheel bearings on two other corners before they fixed the correct side with the problem. And at that time, I did not pull anything with my Highlander. Just poor quality to have a wheel bearing fail that early. It was all covered under warranty. I'm at 60,000 miles and all is fine. Lastly, the only other issue I had was something in the rear parking brake mechanism popped out and made a scaping sound from the back. They just told me something had popped out inside of the rear rotor/drum and fixed it for free. I don't think yours sounds like this. So, if no vibration through the brake pedal, and no vibration through the steering wheel I would think the wheel bearing is likely. Any vibrations through the pedal or steering wheel and I would point you in a different direction. I hope it helps.

I do feel something slight in the steering wheel, but the rotors were recently replaced (6 months ago) because they were warped. This doesn’t feel like that though. (And they didn’t make a sound, toi just felt it in the wheel when braking).

I am going to assume the wheel bearing as wheel. Your Highlander sounded just like my mom’s 2012 Highlander that needed a wheel bearing. The symptoms you are experiencing also sound the same...

If you are feeling some vibration...it's possible you might have a half-shaft starting to go. You could check that out for excessive play. Check to see that there are no cracks or openings in the half-shaft boots. PS- if that is a wheel bearing, I would say it's run like that a long time. I think that is really loud versus what I had when my wheel bearing was replaced.

It has been like this for about 2 months I’d say.

Just to update this thread, it was indeed the wheel bearing (front passenger).
