I just up-graded to a 2014 Tundra 5.7 from a 2010 Tacoma and the install was a breeze. Same connections using the same plug, male and female. I install to next to the emergency brake pedal. That seem to be the only spot.... If Toyota change the plug in the 2015, that would really suck. I almost bought a 2015, but got a great deal on a left over 2014, Glad i did !

I agree ! No need to change wiring harness for the new plug on my P3

The installs look good. The problem is the knee air bag under the steering wheel. If you get into an accident and that air bag deploys, its going to blow that controller off the panel and into your shin or worse. That's why we made the trim plate and panel for the P3.

havasubud, I finally got around to ordering one of your trim plates/panel for the P3. I'll let you know how it goes. Price is a little high I think at $59.95 with shipping, but it will be worth it if it really looks like a factory install. Thanks for making it available.

Did you have any problems fishing the controller's wire to the new dash panel ? I also have a 2014 using the P-3 also, right now the install is just over the emergency brake and not happy with the location. How is the P-3 secured into the panel from sliding either forward or inward ?

It fits perfectly with just 3 or 4 zip ties. It comes with 2 screws that holds it in place. Pretty simple mounting.

You ordered one of ours? Ours is specific to the P3. I don't know if the p2 will fit correctly. The aluminum trim plate was laser cut to the dimensions of the P3, hence that is where most of the cost is coming from. Let me know

I bought a panel off Ebay, which replaces the panel. It has a hole in it for stock controller. trim.jpg

In fact where I had it mounted in my last Tundra before my accident the Airbag didn't knock it off rather it was the impact. That's why I choose the same location but this time a little higher.

A guy in a Ford F350 ran a red light while I was making a left turn. Estimated hitting me around 50 mph. Of course he got the ticket..I didn't get hurt. Just some bruising. That truck is strong. So I bought another.

I just spoke with Toyota about installing this in my Tundra. They said the part is $315 plus $45 for labor. My question is I've seen it for as low as $136 on Amazon. Will I need any other parts of I choose to instal it myself to save the money??

Thanks for the Info... I did hear of this and Toyota was talking about having a factory install brake controller......

I was lucky to purchase a left over 2014 Tundra. Which turn out to be a bit of a problem, to install. The left panel which was once open is now covered. A little more work is required to connect brake controller.

So I've been reading around on various threads on installing a trailer brake controller on my truck. I have a 2015 tundra. This thread has been the most helpful thus far leading me to purchase the dash component with the slot in it, and a p3 controller.

Just for fun I looked up the new components of the 2016 model compared to mine. Major differences would be the oem brake controller and a 38 gallon tank. If at all possible I'd like to keep the parts factory.

So with a bunch of calling around and bullshit, I wound up going to a local dealership who's parts and service department have done me some solids and overall been pretty cool guys. Turns out there IS a factory trailer brake that can be ordered. $280 out the door and it looks like it will fit into the 2015 model and integrate with the center display. Or so I've been told with some relative certainty.

I have the p3 as backup though. Problem being that since it's an electrical part it can't be returned once it's been plugged in. So essentially spending the money hoping it works.

Anyways, where I was going with all this is just letting the guys here know that the option is certainly available if you find the right people to help you. Any phone calls I made prior to going into the dealership in person resulted in a firm no it won't work. Keep in mind it's for 2015 models only, like previously stated in this thread the 2014 has the wiring on the left instead of the right side.

I'll keep you all posted about the brake controller and whether or not it actually works.

I'm waiting on hearing back about the 38 gallon tank. Parts (tank and fuel pump) are about $1600 not including labor, assuming it can be installed. I'll let you know about that as well when I find out.

Worst case scenario I have the p3 on standby :)

I installed the OEM brake and it works. If you have a 2015 tundra you can put a toyota brake in it. 2015 only though since the brake cable was moved to this location. 2014 or earlier you'd have to do aftermarket.

I've sold probably 30-40 of these things so far. They're still taking a little while to get in, but they are coming in now.

If you're buying it from toyota, the panel is about 25 bucks and the controller is about 290. So plan on around 320 total

Definitely worth it. and getting the 46g fuel tank is nice too.

Still working on that. Largest tank I know of is 38 gal. Not sure if toyota would let it be installed. I'm sure you could get the parts just go to a separate mechanic to have it installed. I'll keep you updated though

The trailer brake looks clean, all the buttons work except for the manual slider. Haven't found a trailer large enough local to me hat has brakes so I can try that feature. I'm pretty sure it'll work since everything else installed just fine but I'm curious. Probably need an actual trailer connected for you to use the manual brake

I've used 4 different brake controllers in the past on different trucks. I wasn't totally happy with any of them for various reasons. I'm pulling 4 different weight trailers up to 8000. The Toyota controller in my 2016 is the best controller I've used. If you are considering a brake controller and you have a 2015, I would recommend the Toyota over any of the aftermarket ones.
