So I've been narrowing down a CAI I'm wanting to purchase. Some say CARB approved, others are not. Is this just a California thing and the other 49 states have nothing to worry about?

California Air Resources Board. CA only. CARB is the entity responsible for the stupid Air Injection Pumps that can fail. They are only used to pump pre-heated air thru exhaust manifolds to catalytics at start up. Yet all 2nd gen and apparently 3rd gen Tundras get them no matter where sold .

Some Mods :) See build thread for details
Alot of products not just related to cars are moving toward the California specs so that they don't accidentally send something to CA that doesn't meet their regulations and get fined.

Many states are adopting CARB standards into their own testing regimens. You might want to check with the DMV in your state to see if that is the case.

CARB certified lawnmowers, chainsaws, weed eaters, generators. Pretty soon gas BBQ grills. Thank you California and EPA! Heck Canadian Tundras are probably CARB'd.

Below is a map showing EPA states (blue) and CARB states (red). All CARB states require CARB approved OEM systems. However, most CARB states do not require CARB approved aftermarket systems and will accept those approved by EPA.

Is it me or just a coincidence that the map is kinda close to donkey/elephant red-blue election states? Hmmmm.
