Does anyone know of a manufacturer who provides / produces an aluminum or steel replacement for the tailgate molding on our trucks? The clips on mine have been broken for as long as I can remember, and I'm finally getting annoyed of the molding / protection popping off the truck when I unload things.

I can find plastic replacements online, but I want to install something more robust and be done with it. Preferably not diamond plate.

May not be your style, but I ran 6 Metal Roofing Screws (all weather painted self tapping with rubber grommet washer) evenly spaced along the inside portion of the gates length to hold the OEM Plastic. Been holding nicely for years. I’ve thought about a metal cap as you suggest but seems hard to find and not worth the $$$ to have one custom’d.

That seems like a far more cost effective approach. I have no problem manipulating for functionality. You installed from the inside of the gate (closed), facing out, if I'm understanding correctly? I'm a pikcher lurner, if you have some to reference :D

Basically, the screws are installed on the inside lip (like where the OEM Clips are). Not the top of the gate. The inside of the gate bed as its closed. You’ll space the screws evenly and in a fresh location (not the original clip holes). I can get a pic later as right now I’m tired.

The screws are 1” Self Tappers from Big Box. They are painted gray and come with the rubber and metal washer already on the screw. Use an appropriate hex bit and they tap right through the plastic and underlying metal with a drill. Do not over tighten.

I’ve screwed down some of the OEM Plastic Bed Liner in areas where its warped up or become loose and floppy with the same technique.

Look into something called ExpertVoice. If they have a relationship with your employer, or previous employers, you can get access and get discounts on all kinds of stuff. Most of it is trivial but the discount on complete bikes is insane. That is, if you can find anything in stock. The covid MTB craze made a lot of vendors pull out because of demand.

OEM green looks so weird to me now.

This was also my first set of LEDS that had in the headlights. No fogs, no light bar, no git'r'dun.

3 years ago. I remember this day vividly.

I'll check it out. I could always just hound my boss if he knows anyone. I'm sure someone has a deal guy. I'd say more than half our customers are mtb people.

I need a mtb. I have a bmx bike, and grew up in the flat. Ive been through a few box store suspension bikes, but one got an engine and started to fold a wheel, and the other is somewhere in n.arkansas, i used it to bomb downhill mt.petit jean (my grandma and her cousin followed me down, drove me back up while i swapped tires and brake shoes, ald let me go again). First time i burned the brakes i was less than 100’ from a cliff edge. Had to lock it up. I tried riding a 10 speed through these hills, and found that wanting, so i went back to motorcycles.

About to get the old girl back to her former glory. Weird question, but if you had $5-7k to dump into a project and someone that’ll do the work without charging hours(except maybe a six pack and dinner) how would you attack it? Needs a timing belt and exhaust, rust starting to creep over the fenders and rockers, been sitting for over a year so needs all fluids changed... what’s next? I’ll try to post pictures when I’m by a computer, 2000 Tundra Limited w/ 4.7L 4x4 AC. Obviously getting everything in perfect working order is a must, just wondering if anyone can think of some main things to tackle to let me get another 150k miles out of her.

This necromancy spell took WAY longer than intended to achieve the desired results. Wonder if the ol' Necronomicon is needing fresh souls to be back up to par?

Still, glad to have you back, @bmf4069. Bummer on the rough go, but glad you're moving ahead. Sometimes you just gotta keep smiling, even if you're faking it.

    Congrats on the bike, too!:bikewheelie:

Sounds like you are on the right track. I would certainly give the suspension a hard look too. And do all you can to stop the rust. How's the frame look? How many miles are on it now?

I’m excited man, suspension right now is stock with an RC level, thinking about going ICON stage 2 with the leaf and adjustable coil overs. Frame is great! Recalled and replaced in 2015. Wondering if it’s worth it to get the body rust professionally fixed, last time i just cut it out and welded on sheet metal before rattle canning the whole truck(wasn’t going for looks lol). Currently sitting at 164k miles

Got the sequoia at least started. Trucks security system was tripped due to the remote start. Gonna pull that crap off. Only to realize the old girl had lost a head gasket. Blows more white smoke than my Cummins blows black :bananadead: 226k on the clock.

Truck has 226k on the clock, it’s in 2 good of shape for us to right the truck off. So I’m either looking at a crate motor or fixing the one that’s in it.

*oem for the head gaskets I’m assuming?
*ARP head studs, overkill I know but I’m already gonna be in there

Not sure what I’m gonna do if the heads are warped.anybody seen this
    https://spprecision.com/products/toyota-2uz-fe-47-long-block-crate-engine-sale.html

Kinda of scared it’s a gimmick but hell decent low mileage used motors are around 3 grand

I'm starting to wonder if the 4.7 head gasket failures are as rare as we think. I've talked to a few people on Instagram it happened to. Remember, this forum is only a tiny % of all owners.

Then again, I think Empty said he's not seen many happen at the dealer. Maybe when it happens people just junk em.

There are a few used 4.7's in denver right now.

    https://denver.craigslist.org/pts/d/sedalia-47-complete-engine-toyota/7296744461.html

    https://denver.craigslist.org/pts/d/aurora-01-toyota-tundra-47-engine-denver/7289129361.html

Also, don't know if the 4.7 from the 4runner is direct swap, but those actually seem to be easier to find and iirc they were made in Japan with better rods so you can boost it!
