Led pods behind honeycomb grill

Does anyone have leds behind their honeycomb grill? I have 4 Rigid pods and I'm trying to figure out a place to mount them. I do not want ditch lights.

 

Redrider29 posted recently in the “what have you done to your 3rd gen today” a photo of lights mounted behind the grill. He is going to follow up with photos of how he did it

Subbing since I had ditch lights that my wife hated, so looking at alternatives that aren't a full light bar.

 

Here's the post. It's a little different since it's the older style Pro grille that lets more light through, but I'm interested to see how he mounted them.

Can you not use the same mounts you had on that one? It does look like the honeycomb will block a lot of light, though. Maybe look into two single row 8-10" bars on either side of the TSS?

 

Hello, yes I mounted mine behind the grill. Used a simple piece of metal bent and drilled into the cross beam just below the grill. Pics coming i promise. Just working...sort of

 

Yeah I made brackets for my 2013. I just wasn't sure how it would look on the 2020 grill. As much as I paid for them, I will find a spot somewhere lol.

 

After I took the pic I remembered I just used a small piece of flat stock. Drilled a hole and used a big spacer to get height. Very simple and definitely nothing special. Best pics I could get without pulling the grill. Sorry.

 

I forgot to mention that I love your plate and saw it’s available in AZ...

 

You could set them up as chase lights maybe? I think I’m going to put a light bar in the hood bulge, though the NSV I really want might be a bit out of my budget.

 

Nice, although my daughter and wife aren't happy with it. Its my truck so oh well.

 

Also if you do get that plate, send a pic so I can show my wife I'm not the only one.

 

You guys aren't looking at LED light bars, but I purchased the Diode Dynamics SAE/DOT lightbar kit that goes behind the grill. I opted for the fog in amber. I briefly met up with @TRDFerguson this past weekend and saw me coming up the road.

After talking with him I took them out on a local trail and they performed awesome. I'm waiting on a set of Rago Ditch Brackets and Baja Design's Squadron Sport driving combo to install. There was a 4 week lead time and I placed the order a couple of weeks ago. I'm anxiously waiting to get them so I can install them.

Interestingly, on the way back to civilization, I turned in front of a sheriff who followed very closely and tried to get me to speed up. I held strong, didn't speed and used both my head beams and light bars when no other cars were around and turned them off when oncoming traffic was close enough.

 

Can verify, lights were bright as sh*t lol.

 

I did/am looking but since I have a 2019 with a 2017 pro grill, the TSS sensor would be potentially blocked by the bar. I might just buy a 20' pro grill so the sensor is in the right spot.

 

Yeah I pulled these out of my 2013 before I sold it. I am looking to eventually put them on my 2020 if I find a mesh grill. I have a bar in my front bumper already.

 

Ahh, ok. I have the Platinum. As you can barely tell in the first picture above, I had to use extra baskets to raise the lightbar to clear the grill a little. Based on real trail usage, the light output is bright enough to overcome sitting behind the honeycomb a little.

I think it helps that I bought the Pro series, instead of the Sport series.

 

Bumping an older post but those won't fit with a trans cooler installed.

 

Do you have a link for the spacer? Or what height did you buy?

Yes it was Lowes. They have a few different sizes in their specialty fastens area. Sorry I don't remember exact size. They are cheap and you can buy a few to test height with then return what you don't need

 

Are these the diode dynamics dogs or the driving light pattern? Looks great

Yes they are
Why won't they work on trucks with the transmission cooler? Is it because you have no room?

 

Yeah there isn't alot of room between the cooler and the grille.

Well the diode dynamics pods are not as thick as the other brand

 

I'm not sure if Diode Dynamics has DOGS...

I have the SAE fog pattern in the grill...
