I’m welding up a cat-back system and need to find a way to adapt intermediate pipes to the 4” on-center inlets of the magnaflow from the 6.5” of the original muffler. I’m curious to see how others have solved this. Is it necessary or can I go straight from the muffler?

    I'm no expert.....

Can you return the muffler and get a single center inlet and then use a Y to merge the 2 stock pipes into the single inlet muffler.

Thanks for responding! It’s definitely possible but I think I can angle and weld with the lap fitting to achieve the spacing necessary. The pipes won’t be parallel but I’m not showing the truck. I currently have a bunch of exhaust leaks and this will sort it out. I think I’ll do a little photo story of the assembly incase it could help anyone out. Provided I can do it correctly! HA!!!

    Good luck.

I look forward to seeing the finished result.

    Sound clips are great too.

Good luck on your project. I have had magnaflow mufflers on a few different vehicles. They are pretty quiet, do have some decent sound when you step on it, but they did drone a lot more than other performance exhausts/mufflers I have used.

Thanks for the heads up! I’m hoping that this 5x8x18 muffler won’t drone too bad. Don’t have much reference since I was commuting with a Prius for 5 yrs before I got this truck last August. I feel like anything I do will be better than what I have now. Not only is the oem muffler leaking at all of the hangers, here’s what the intermediate flanges look like.

Yep, time to dump that. If the drone gets too bad you can check with dirtydeeds and they can set you up with a resonator to fix the drone. Magaflow does have good quality so will be much better than that rusty hunk for sure.

Cool! Gonna try to chop up/clean up the pipe to the back and make it exit behind the passenger side running board. I do the welding so it’s a fun experiment. Gonna just do a turn down until I figure out the geometry. I love doing this stuff. I really appreciate the input!!!

Finally finished my new exhaust. All 409 stainless and all welding was done with TIG and 308 filler rod. Dynomax intemediate pipes directly in to Magnaflow 5x8x18 muffler. I used beefier 1/2 SS fasteners for flanges. Had to ream bolt holes and gaskets. I used Walker 2.5” lap joint band clamps to secure inlets to intermediates. I had spare 1/2” 304 stainless rod and fabricated a large hanger bracket for the back of the muffler to use existing hanger. I then cut the elbow out of the old tailpipe and positioned it and welded directly to the muffler with a new 45 degree Dynomax 2.5” tube to clear the leaf spring and exit behind the running board. It sounds awesome and no drone!!! I will have to put the baby’s car seat on the driver’s side though.
