Yesterday, I needed to go down to our local bike park to clear some trees for a new jump line. We had a Bobcat in there a few days ago pushing around some dead fall and piling it up. We have a debris box but some of the logs were too long and needed some bucking. So I grab my chainsaw, chaps, hearing protection, helmet with screen, and SAFETY GLASSES.
I walk over to my equipment and fuel up the saw, get all dressed up for the ball, and start setting up my workstation. It’s
6am with a forecast of high heat for the day, so naturally I’m moving a little faster trying to get it done. I’m already sweating, dripping and fogging up my glasses. I take them off to wipe them clean and set them down. I see my first log I’m going to cut, and decide to flip it over , end over end to a better spot. I proceed to stand it on end like the Highland games minus a kilt and drop it into position. As I’m standing over it, it double bounces and sends a piece of bark shooting straight into my face. Of course, I wasn’t cutting yet and had my screen up with my just cleaned safety glasses off. The bark jets straight into my right eye. No time to blink. Writhing in a pain for a bit , like a scene of a Three Stooges eye poke, I come around and continue the job. I’m feeling ok but as the morning goes on it really starts to hurt. I decide to call it a day and head back to the house to flush out my eye,
just in case. No noticeable debris but still painful. I’m considering having the wife give me the once over exam , when my boys come bounding down the stairs and ask me to work out with them. So I comply and head out to the gym. First exercise is a slam ball. I grab a weighted ball, without realizing I grabbed the wrong one, and proceed to start the exercise with a huge overhead reach on tippy toes. I grip that weighted ball and and slam it down with enough force to crack a coconut in two. The ball (bouncy weighted) immediately ricochets back up directly into my right eye….yes the same eye. I reared back, with an instant neck tweak, and fall to the ground. Eye watering, nose running, a lot of people staring, my boys laughing, and now a black eye building up. Uhhhg. I finish the workout and decide to head to urgent care as it still feels like a bag of sand in my eyeball. MD was pretty cool and we laughed a lot. Luckily nothing embedded but a pretty deep laceration to the cornea. Now on antibiotics and a continued headache for the next
    few days.

I WAS going to mention the time I was cutting a 2x4 and decided to wipe off the sawdust instead of blowing it off, and ran a 1" long splinter through the fat part of my pinky finger. Then I was going to describe what a badass I was for grabbing the point that was sticking out the other side with a pair of pliers and pulling it the rest of the way through to remove it (the base of the splinter broke off inside my finger, so I wasn't able to pull it back out the way it went in).

But after reading the stories posted here... I feel inadequate. In comparison, my story is about as traumatic as petting a friendly puppy. lol

I've been fortunate so far. I've done plenty of stupid stuff, not as much as some of ya'll, but I've managed to mostly get away relatively unscathed.
