I still get error occasionally. Have had the first recall attempt performed and still get error when rains or snows after about 40 minutes of exposure.

Per the owners manual you’ll get TSS errors during rain and snow, this is a known “feature”.

Is there a way to permanently disable the PCS? (ie. dealer option)

Thanks for the link to the PCS issue. Mine had the PCS problem from the start. I fixed it by wiping and polishing the front toyota emblem in the grill all the time. The PCS sensor is in the emblem. Polishing it and waxing it makes it slippery... so dirt and water doesn’t stick to it. It helped to stop the normal weather/dirt related PCS failures.
The current problem is that the total sensor system is failing and throwing everything from headlight to PCS to Lane departure warning and beeps.

Getting occasional error code now. 2" lift/level and swapped to an old Pro grill with the relocation kit.
Happens once every couple of days or so, usually out of nowhere. Minor annoyance more than anything.

Quick update... Haven't had any issues since September. I got bedliner and a camper shell and immediately started having issues again. Then I put on airbags on the rear to bring the rear back up and haven't had any issues since.

Thinking about that more... Someone needs to make an adjustable TSS sensor mount.

I’m about to order a TRD pro grille for my 18 SR5- wondering if there’s a bit difference in using the Toyota OEM TSS garnish versus a $30 knockoff?

Seems like it’s just a piece of plastic covering the sensor and we all know the OEM stuff is way overpriced.

Any experience here would be greatly appreciated!

I don't have any direct experience, but lots of guys bought the aftermarket Pro grill and garish from mcauto and I haven't heard of issues with those. I'm not sure if the aftermarket garish is a direct fit on the Toyota grill though, that may be your only issue, but you could probably make it fit. I agree that there is nothing special about the material used for the cover.

I wouldn’t say recurring, happened twice same trip, both times in heavy sand on the beach. I didn’t have TRAC, etc. turned off though. Resolved with a key cycle once back on solid ground.

I have gone in and disabled everything via the digital console in my truck. I did recently receive a Christmas tree stating that my system failed but it reset itself (Maybe because it is disabled). THEN (BIG BROTHER STUFF) I received a phone call from my local Toyota Dealership telling me that I needed to come in and have my truck serviced ASAP due to the Alert they received... UGH. I respectfully replied that the truck resolved itself and I was good to go. She seemed a bit perplexed at my response but OH WELL.

With my 2020 SR5 that I've just had about 2 months, with 19000 miles, I have had 3 or 4 incidents where the cruise control brakes the truck and lights up a red box or some sort of red indicator in the dash center screen. First time was cruising on the interstate, no cars around, went under a bridge, and bam hard brake but just for a split second thankfully. The other times have been around cars in other Lanes. I really like the radar cruise (also have on RAV4, never given any trouble there) so I'm thinking of taking it in the the dealership under warranty.

Previous owner installed raptor grill and relocated TSS radar sensor.

My concern is that the sensor doesn't have a cover as other relocation brackets and stock implementations have. Should I be concerned for longevity? It works fine with cruise control in it's current form. In the pic below you can see the bracket holding it and the sensor has all the electronic certification print on the front.. The bracket is one I have not seen before that bolts on to the top and the center beams.

Hell guys....I totally swapped out my Limited chrome grill for a TRD (the one you see now) and had to mount it with one of those aftermarket sensor mount brackets behind the TRD grill. No issues on the mounting.
Keep in mind before I did the grill swap the old Limited emblem covered TTS would have all the same buggy shit you guys have. Brand new truck out of the box.

New grill, way different TSS mounting and still the same old buggy-ness. Oh well.

I can take this to a PM if needed, but who did you purchase the old pro grill from? Two manufacturers told me the old pro grill will not work with the 18+ years

I bought it from another member here. They fit no problem, the reason they're saying it won't work is the radar/sensor. I used the AJT relocation kit and it works fine 99% of the time. I get the error when its raining really hard, but it clears and works fine after that. I don't use radar cruise all that often (if you press and hold cruise control it bypasses the radar and goes to fixed speed) and the emergency braking part I could do without anyways. Besides the light on the dash its not been an issue for me.

Thank you so much. That just made my decision a whole lot easier. Follow up question, as my truck has been delivered but I haven’t been home to drive it. The radar cruise feature slows and speeds you up according to whether someone is in front of you, yes? There is no automatic steering element that keeps you within your lane? If it does nothing to keep me in my lane (basically auto drive like the Kia k5 has) then I despise when cruise automatically slows me down

I have a 2019 and have the old style grill with no problems. I initially used the ajt relocation bracket and had constant errors. It was not due to installation error. I bought the jomax and it fixed the issue immediately and haven’t had the problem for three years. Jomax unfortunately doesn’t sell the bracket anymore. If
You search the ajt relocation bracket, you will find that it is hit or miss with a lot more misses…….

That’s frustrating. Have you heard of any other relocation kits that have fewer issues?

I only know of jomax and ajt honestly. You may get lucky if a member here is selling an older jomax. Many are trying to plane down the cover plate on the ant thinking the thickness is the issue. But to date I haven’t seen or heard of anyone coming up with an adequate solution.

Yes, the radar cruise works sorta like you described, but a lot less graceful than some other vehicles do. If you're set at 65 and slowly closing on a vehicle that's doing 64, it doesn't just slow you to 64 at a certain distance. When you get to the specified distance it kills your speed altogether. I hate it because you lose all momentum and its just an annoyance. If you change lanes after losing 10-15 MPH then it tries to get back to the set speed and usually downshifts until you get there. Its very clunky and could be a lot more smooth, which is why I rarely use it. I just use the standard cruise control feature to avoid all that. It will also yell at you if your closing speed is greater than whatever value is set, but not sure if it automatically applies the brakes. Some say it does, some say it just beeps and flashes and warns you of an impending collision. I've only activated that once and I was already on the brakes so not sure. It definitely doesn't steer for you or anything like that. As far as the AJT bracket being hit or miss, I've had mine for quite a while and while it does throw an error every once in a while its good 99% of the time. Maybe contact them and ask them about it, maybe they upgraded their design to account for the issues some were experiencing.

It will apply the brakes, I have felt it and I was testing it with my wife behind me on the phone and the brake lights would come on without me touching the pedal when I came up to a car at a stoplight.

One time my 3 dogs got all spunky in the backseat in traffic and I had to turn to see what the hell was up and BOOM! It was not happy and I slammed on the brake when it was already on, weird feeling but a happy one. Thanks Mr. T
