Sorry man. They offered it up after the giveaway we did with them closed. At least you got 15% though. Just trying to share the love, via discounts... ha.

    Thanks for the discount OP!
Looking to get a combo package, but this is all Greek to me.
Could someone give me a brief explanation on the models? Also, how hard is it to get a GMRS license?

    Lots of shenanigans.
Super easy to get the license.

    Here's a really good thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/gmrs-general-mobile-radio-service-thread.52937/

I was debating on the MXT115 and the 275. They are pretty much the same thing just different positions for controls. 115 controls are on the actual radio box and 275 is on the radio itself. I opted for the 115. I think that the 400 is a 40 watt but doesnt come with an antenna.

Just so happens I applied for a license this morning. It is pretty easy.

First step, apply for a FRN (FCC Registration Number): https://apps.fcc.gov/coresWeb/publicHome.do and Click on “Register” and follow the instructions to completion.

Second step, this step threw me for a second because I didn’t get an email confirmation or anything showing my actual FRN. Maybe I missed something in the process but then it dawned on me to lookup my own name. So . . . Once you’ve submitted the request, go back to the same page (https://apps.fcc.gov/coresWeb/publicHome.do) and click on “Search”. From the drop down list under “Find” select “Last Name”. Lookup your name. It’ll likely be the very last one (most recent). If you locate your name, the new FRN will be in the left hand column. Copy it down.

Step three, ref the info in the link provided by @YotaBro. It was a big help. You’ll have to log in with your new FRN and password here: https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsEntry/licManager/login.jsp. BTW - “ZA - General Mobile Radio Service” at the bottom of the list is the option you need. You’ll know what I mean when you get to that page.

This is all new to me also but if you run into problems give me a shout and I’ll try to help. Best of luck.

Yeah, I came across this forum when I was looking for a GMRS radio (everyone in my trail running group either uses FRS or GMRS) so I wanted something permanent and decided to go the GMRS route. I read that forum (the link that I provided, but @El Two summed it up pretty nicely. The nice thing about the midland GMRS is you can connect to FRS channels (which is what we do since our group has a mixture). License is pretty straight forward and quick to receive. No test, 70$ fee but that fee can be used for your entire immediate family (unlike HAM) and with Midland’s coupon code it’s pretty competitive. I think I’ve posted a link of my setup but if I haven’t then I will. I’m running a MXT-115 with a ghost antenna that is connected to a Cali Raised CB antenna mount on my driver ditch lights. Reception is great even out in the middle of nowhere. Haven’t tested it out in any crazy distances cause our convoys are around 8 vehicles so we’re within a mile of each other when we go on trails.

Sweet, do you keep a bigger antenna in the truck if the need arises?

Supposedly, the fee has gone down to $45 as of recent. Either way, it’s still 10 yrs.

Did you order the cord to connect the 115 with the antenna?

Hey yo, haven’t been here in a while. No codes yet, but you may want to try hitting up midland directly and tell them 4lobound sent you and see if they will honor it. Wouldn’t hurt to try...

Hey, I know it’s been a while, but I reached out to Midland to confirm. 4lobound15 is good for the rest of this year. Have at it!
