    Lots of shenanigans.
Building a DIY on board air system rn and I will have CO2 for the first time. I’d like to have an impact gun for changing tires, doing work on the vehicle. Would prefer nothing crazy crazy expensive but I do have the mindset of buy once cry once.

Yes it is. I would not mess with air tools. The M18 Fuel runs circles around 98% of air impacts

Pick a big name brand and stick with it. I'm partial to Dewalt and would recommend that. Don't buy crap...

The air supply needed for the high torque air impacts is typically far more than most on board systems can provide.

You don't have enough CFM unless you're running a York.
I have a 7.5 HP compressor at home and quit using air tools because the M18 Fuels are just better. No hose to drag around, no compressor running. Just a better tool for the job.
The 1/2" Fuel will do anything you need done.

I’d buy battery regardless if the compressor can handle it. I never use my air wrench in the shop and it’s a very capable high $$ ingersoll rand. Milwaukee 18v all the way. Hands down. Havent touched the IR in 2 years.

I have hundreds of mechanic friends/ shop owners and I can't think of one that still runs air tools, not even die grinders.

I agree I have an 80 gallon Ingersoll rand compressor and Ingersoll rand titanium air tool that I hardly use anymore. The milwaukee do a great job and no hose to drag around.

1/4” impacts usually can’t remove lugnuts. I have a Milwaukee 2853 with 2000 in lbs and it still can’t bust loose lug nuts from normal cars and trucks. I’m not taking HD trucks.

I love PF! IIRC, Milwaukee has taken the cake in all of his videos. I went with a Milwaukee since I was already invested in their tool line. A few weeks ago, I decided to remove the running boards off my truck. While attempting to do so, I broke my half inch ratchet and a breaker bar did not even move them. I used it as an excuse to finally buy a 1/2 cordless impact. The Milwaukee rattled them off with no problem. They weren’t joking when they said 1400ft/lb.

Impact drivers aren't the same as impact wrenches.

The big hoss 1/2” Milwaukee will break 1400 FT lbs. The impact driver is 166 FT lbs.

Again, I just threw this up there to open the rabbit hole... unless you want me to sit people down and spoon feed them, I'm not down for that. I can change it, or you may contribute for throwing something more proper up there..

Milwaukee definitely makes good stuff! Home Depot had a killer deal a while back on a huge DeWalt combo set, so I'm invested in that 20v ecosystem now. I've had DeWalt stuff in the past and have never had any issues, and so far it's been the same with my newish stuff. I also know people that own Milwaukee tools and love those as well. I think it's hard to go wrong with either—most people aren't torturing them like PF does in his tests!

I’ve got the Dewalt 1/2 in impact and it’s awesome. Tons of power. I haven’t found anything it can’t do yet. I wanted to try the Milwaukee but I already have a bunch of Dewalt tools and didn’t want to invest in another battery platform.

The best advise I can give is buy name brand batteries. Do not buy off brand crap from Amazon. You do not what you're getting. Sometimes the cell capacities don't match the side labeling. They can also have poor or non existent fusing. They also don't have good contamination protection. Overcharge protection could also be questionable. Dewalt, MW, or other bigger brands - buy their batteries.
