I am looking at retaining the stock airbags in the rear on my platinum but I do not like the ride quality with them in the fully inflated position. I raised the sensor to level out the rig after installing the 2.5 inch lift on the front.

The ride quality is horrible now and I am looking to install a 4 inch spacer and lower the sensor back to its stock position.

    Has anyone tried this before?

Here are some pictures to further explain what I am thinking about.

The first picture shows the part that I am looking to install to achieve the lift without getting rid of the airbag system.

    Screen Shot 2020-04-22 at 4.06.06 PM.jpg

Here is where I am thinking of installing these parts

    IMG_2802.jpg

The bottom is held on by a single bolt as far as I can see. If anyone knows better please let me know.

My thought process is that I can deflate the bag by removing the line from the compressor. Jack up the rig and let the suspension drop all the way and install the spacer plate. Simple Right...

Do you have a link to that kit? is a generic or specific to the Sequoia? Just bought a Platinum and have the same questions about this.

    Yes.

I’ve had them on my last two tundras.

    they work as intended.

    @Coachbuilder1 makes them as well.

I am in the same boat, months ago, and I am thinking of using the Daystar Airbag cradle with aluminum shims and installing a longer bolt to secure the bag. Hopefully I'll be able to start this part of the project this spring.

Has anyone on this thread installed airbag spacers?

I have a 2012 sequoia platinum. My toyota indie mechanic says this will be no problem and they install these on pickups all the time. They haven't installed on a sequoia before, however (mechanic says that is purely due to there being so few sequoias that get lifted). Would be great to hear from anyone who has done this.

Hopefully in the nest few weeks once the snow stops falling. I will be making my own spacer for mine. Right now, I just have the air pumped up by adjusting the level switch to the max. Rougher ride, but still solid.

thanks for the reply. Any reason you are making your own when a kit is only $84?

Seems like no downside to installing airbag spacers (ie. easy to remove with no new holes) and may even extend the life of the airbags, so I’m just surprised there aren’t more posts about people installing these on platinum sequoias. There are plenty of posts about tundra owners adding airbags and spacers to their trucks, so seems like we are already 90% there with the airbags factory installed.

I think their aren't more posts because all of the set's I've researched specifically say, "not compatible with rear air bags on Toyota Sequoia Platinum trim."

Like you said, the kits aren't expensive and I'm not completely sure why every set isn't compatible with the Platinum. I've been researching this for quite a while and still haven't come across anything that states it's compatible.

Would be extremely interested if you have a link of a kit you've found that is compatible.

Thanks that’s really helpful to know you’ve already researched this extensively. I’m going to see what my Toyota mechanic can find out. He owes me a favor after I trained him up on techstream.

Please report back with your findings. Not sure why the current kits on the market wouldn't work, but I'm not dropping $100 on something that may work and I can't return.

I have friends with 3D printers who have offered to take measurements and print spacers, but just haven't gotten around to it.

Contact Tandem Offroad. Jonathan has the bags figured out. I have coils but he let me drive his (bags) while they were working on mine.
Driving his made me wish I had the bags.

@UtahBlues thanks for the update. I have been looking into the spacers and just ordered from Tandem. Have talked with two owners who have these spacers on their Platinums and they are fans. Plus really cool seeing Tandem running the spacers on their main offroad vehicle they use to test all of their Sequoia parts. Still need to decide on suspension (that can get so pricey). Planning to reach out to Jonathan on that.

@Adamdsgn found this video detailing the install of the spacers. Really well-explained and makes me feel more confident in doing it myself without damaging the delicate clips or airbag tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9jfJ9QoQTw

I appreciate what Tandem is doing, but dang at some of those prices. I know it's a lot of R&D on their part as well as a supply and demand thing (there just aren't a ton of Seq's to begin with, much less Platinum's). $350 isn't much all in all, but it's a large hockey puck and some other simple components... I got a 2018 like Jonathan's. $2300 for a bumper supporting sensors, new gears, other suspension parts, wheels, tires. That doesn't include many other things I'll need for sleeping, storage, ect. I was hoping to stay around $10k... I foresee a great many marital issues in my future haha.

@truckeesequoia Let us know how it goes.

Yea man I’m with you. Ain’t cheap. The tandem spacers I ordered exactly a month ago still haven’t shipped, so can’t report back yet. Figured I would have them by now.

Finally got my Tandem spacers and they look well made. I thought about making my own but the Tandem ones come with brackets for the sensors as well and people seemed to be pleased with them. Ill be installing them when I get a warm day along with my TRD Pro Fox suspension.
