Are there any options for ladder/ cab high racks that are compatible with a bakflip Mx4? Just looking to haul my 12'-13' surf rods without having to break them down and put in the bed.

Ended up going with the Adarac Contour. It will suit its intended use. I will post pictures when it gets here.

I have a roll up cover and went with the adarac as well, as they use the stake pockets to mount the rail.
Just a fyi the rail at the end of the truckbed will stick out a bit over the bed a bit, see my other picture. It is not "clean" looking but the rack works for it intended purpose. I did buy the shorter bars as well for winter usage with a cargo box to haul my ice shelter.20210330_174117.jpg

Looks like it will fit the bill for what I need it to do. Once I get my hands on it, I'll try and figure out a way to scoot it over a tad, even if it means drilling another hole.........

so you need to cut out the stake pocket areas on the plastic cap?

There are 2 bolt that hold each upright. I just unbolt these and screw them back into the channel bolt on the rail. Took me about 10 minutes to remove my shorter uprights whithout removing the cross bar, to avoid having to properly set the distance between the uprights. Reinstall might take 15 - 20 or so as you need to allign the bolts and make sure everything is square. I do like the ones from Thule that slide out. But just could not find them that use the stake pockets and they were way more than i wanted to spend on it. I do still have the channel bolts in my lower rail and use those to install additional tie down points.20210406_173026.jpg

Yes, you have to cut the plastic cover, I used a small dremel and an exacto knife, if you watch closely to my previous picture, using the metal space that comes with the rack as a guide.
I started in the center and cut out enough material to fit the stake pocket hardware, I did not want to cut along the pre-marked area.
I did make it slightly bigger to give me the space to properly align the rails to be parallel to each other.
They do make a special router bit to cut these, but since I don't own a router, I just cut it with what I had.
I figure if I were to sell my truck I would just drop in those bull ring tie downs and call it a day.

On a side note, the plastic end cap has to be attached before screwing down the rail, there is a small tab for that trim that has to be under the rail, which as to see has popped out.

Yeah, the main reason I got this particular rack is to use during the ice fishing season to carry my ice shelter, its 6 feel long and having it diagonally in the bed prevented me from carrying all my other gear in there. As its compatible with my cover it keeps the snow out as well. In addition if needed I can mount a roof top carrier to these and carry some bulky light stuff or bikes etc.

In the summer I swap out the upright for the taller ones and I can carry my canoe and still tow a trailer or camper. I did get the saddle type carrier as my canoe has the arched front and rears, so will need to carry it upright and not upside down. I do have enough hardware where I can mount both but at this time I have not had a need for it yet.

Depending how long your canoe is you can try to carry it with a hitch extender, this is how I got mine home when I bought is, its like 16 feet.
If your handy building a box frame out of wood and anchoring it down might be the best way to do it.

Another option would be to build a "Back rack type" out of wood behind the main cabin, and run it with a hitch extender. I can swap mine so it will go up instead of go back as well.

If my truck didn't come with a Bakflip hard cover I wouldn't have bought these racks. Eventually I'm going to get a camper top with racks. My main use will be for carrying 10-13' surf rods, that way I can still use the Bakflip to put my surf cart, cooler, bait bucket etc. in the bed. I'll use it some to haul some lumber but I've got access to a trailer for the heavy hauling. 2'x4's would absolutely work in a pinch.......I built a rack out of wood to tote a canoe one time back on my 93' reg cab Yota.

This picture is absolutely amazing. I might consider an extender rack for the hitch. Its probably the most cost effective option. I wont need to haul my kayak more than 5 miles as its stored in my mountain cabin really close to big bear lake.

Easy install, quality parts, and fairly fast shipping from RHR Swag. I'm going to modify the rail slightly so it doesn't hang off the side so much in the rear. IMO great option for the ones that don't want an "overland" style rack but don't want a contractors ladder rack either. Let me add the MX4 functions almost as if the rack isn't even there.

Looks good, post the end product after you modify the rail to adress that overhang in the back.

On a side note if that is a Camry in the back ground, we have the same vehicles, Tundra, Sienna and Camry. Lol

    Will do.
No it's not a Camry(I wish), it's an Infinity G35. We bought it off my sister for a song and dance to give to our 15yo when the time comes. Now it's starting to have electrical problems‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️

Maybe this is not the right thread. but I was looking at used protech racks and found one that came off an 07 Tundra and I have a 14. does anyone know if the 2nd and 3rd gens share a bed rail pocket or if they are close in location?

I ended up not modifying it. I got busy starting a new surveying company and as my buddy pointed out you really don't even notice it if you don't know what to look for

Ok thanks. I'm trying to figure out if one of these Adaracs will fit over a softopper. Would you mind taking a few measurements of your rack for me? If so:
First is from the top of the bed rail to where the upright starts to round over near the top.

Second is across the bed from Adarac rail to Adarac rail. In between the the 2.

Third is the width between uprights at the cross bar.

Fourth is from top of rail to bottom of cross bar.

It's a lot of measurements, I know, but haven't been able to figure it out. From all looking and searching it appears as though it will work. Thanks in advance. If you don't have the time no sweat. I'll keep on the hunt.

Looks good. I've been thinking about a rack like this for my kayaks and want to keep my Undercover Flex cover. So do you have to move the uprights in order to fold your MX4?

It won't completely fold up. I fold it up to the front uprights and then just put a strap on it to keep it from slamming back down
