Putting out some feelers here. We have started planning our next trip. We've decided to hit the areas around Sante Fe NM. I'm just getting started with the research. Anyone got any time in this area? Any suggestions? We will be going in September 2021. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Hello everyone. Jon here from SW Colorado. Just another fly fishing freak. Mostly chase trout but have gone after bass, northern pike, tiger musky, carp, tarpon, permit, bonefish, steelhead, salmon or anything else I can. Tie all my own flies these days.

Favorite Colorado attractor nymph- red rubber leg copper John

    Favorite natural nymph- hares ear

Favorite streamer- big sex dungeon olive or black

Favorite dry- any dry eat- but something special about a nearly two inch salmon fly being violently attacked by a large trout

Native cutthroat trout are special fish for me and have chased various strains in Colorado, Idaho, Montana and will try for more as I can. @NV.Recon I’ve been eyeballing pyramid for years in magazines and movies. It’s on my bucket list. Looks insane!

Bonefish stalking is something every fly fisher should try in their life. Blistering runs for a trout sized fish. So much fun!

Hi everyone - I’m looking for a new 5wt, 9 foot, 4 piece rod. Looking for a price range of around $500 USD.

Anyone have any suggestions of must try out rods? Top of my current list is the Orvis Recon 2.

Temple Fork Outfitters makes fantastic rods and are what I use. Sage is also a good choice.

TFO makes a few nice rods but I don't love the accuracy at the 40 ft range.

Which Sage do you recommend? The Sonic is on my list.

I use the TFO Axiom and Professional II fpr my 5 wts and have no accuracy issues. The Signature Series does get a little sloppy out near 50ft though.

For Sage, I like the Sonic and the Pulse.

Moonshine fly rods are definitely worth a look. I have a Midnight Special that fishes better than either of my high end St. Croix rods. The Moonshine Vesper will be my next rod purchase.

Trust your gut. The recon is, IMO, very tough to beat at its price point.

I was able to cast the Ovis Recon and Sage Sonic 5 wts back to back. I was looking for reasons for the Orvis to win but it didn't match my casting style well enough - almost too firm in the first 4 feet. The Sage felt more delicate (in a good way) and gave me slightly better accuracy.

Still in decision mode as I take a while for new rod purchases, but the Orvis wasn't a match for me.

Got out on Sunday. Could be the last chance before the run off hits. Lots of follows on my streamer but no takers.

One afternoon after work last week.

First time I’ve been “wowed” by cell phone / personal electronics in a long time. Snapped the pic by setting my iPhone in the reeds on the bank then using my Apple Watch to trigger a delayed shutter release. Thought the pic turned out cool even if my net stayed dry that evening.

I fished the Rogue and North Umpqua a few years back in summer. DIY on the rogue hooked and lost a few nymphing. Hired a guide on the north umpqua and we were skating dry flies and had a couple big ones come up. Holy shit that was exciting but still haven’t landed a steelhead yet. Oregon was awesome though and I’ll have to go back. Umpqua was beautiful!

I haven't caught a salmon in years. I grew up in southwestern British Columbia but BC has basically destroyed their salmon runs. I'm dreaming of going to Alaska some day to so I can catch a salmon again.

Lots of beautiful catches in here. Took out my fly rod for the first time this season. Still practicing casting a lot but caught this little guy. Not nearly as impressive as anything in here but there's something so much more fun about catching a fish on the fly vs a spinning rod.
