I recently purchased my 2004 CC. It has an aftermarket HU which worked fine with stock speakers. Problem is aftermarket 3 ohm speakers were installed and has burned the amp. Can some one give me some advice on bypassing amp? thanks

Crutchfield can fix you right up with a bypass harness. You run their bypass cable from your HU to the existing amp.

What was suggested by Crutchfield for my install may or may not fit your install which is why I did not offer earlier. It would help to provide your model of Tundra to your profile here at Tundras.com for easier research for those wishing to help....AC, DC, SR5 etc

Would suggest you go to Crutchfield and enter the info required---> Find what fits your car - Crutchfield

I also suggest purchasing their ready harness which makes it even more plug and play !

What HU unit is installed and do you have Steering Wheel Controls....Volume, Scan etc ?

The below is what was needed for my new HU install which may or may not be what you need !

Metra 70-8117 Amp Bypass Harness Connect a new car stereo and bypass the factory amplifier in select 2003-07 Toyota vehicles at Crutchfield

Another question. What is the impedance on the factory amp? I’ve heard 4 and I’ve heard 2 ohms

On most if not all 1st Gens, rear doors are 4 ohm and front doors have the woofer/tweeter, both 2 ohm wired in series with amp seeing 4 ohm.

My 06 Tundra Limited JBL had 8 speakers with a 6 channel amp. Channels were rear doors, front doors subwoofer & mid range speakers, front door tweeters. When using the Metra bypass harness I only needed the front door subwoofer/mid speaker factory wires and rear door factory speaker wires.
