Early impressions, “on paper”, I like it.

Is it enough to pull me away from Nitto? Meh.... don’t know about that.

I have the Baja atz3 and it's been a great overall tire. These look to be an improvement on those and that would make it even better.

Saw those the other day and said, "yes please."
They do look awesome. Severe snow rated and come with 50k miles warranty. Just ordered some Method Roosts and may need to ditch the Duratracs for these guys.
They are heavy though at 75 lbs for a 35.

Yep, I did notice they are a little on the heavier side compared to other A/T tires. However, I think that extra weight may be due to the 18.5/32 tread depth compared to the 15/32-16/32 on lots of other AT tires.

If I can locate these I will be buying them. I’ve ran the atz p3s and loved them.

Nothing for 16" wheels yet, thats a bummer. They do have an almost 35x10 in 17 though, that's an interesting possibility for first gens.

Got mine on today, ended up with the 315/70r17 despite asking DT to order the 35x12.5x17. The 35x12.5s are D load range whereas my 315s are E. Coming from the MT ATZp3s I can say the D load range is a bit softer than these E loads.

Other than that, I hardly notice any difference in acceleration. Noise is as quiet as stock. Just a bit stiffer than the OE tires.

Overall, Im pleased, especially since they came with the snowflake label.

Yes, at least for now. Mickey Thompson and Cooper appear to have been bought out by Goodyear. I doubt that will end up changing anything with their production plants.

Mickey Thompson has been pretty clear with their American made pride. :oldglory:

Good looking tire tho, just wish they were not so damn heavy....285/70-17's I think were in the mid 60's on weight.

I had the ATZ P3s prior, they were 65lbs, these are 72lbs, I cant tell the difference. But, I did come from Tacomas, where just about anything bigger than OEM size would make them pigs.

My Ultraterrains are 59lbs and noticed a difference maybe just me but i did lose 1.7 mpgs going from BFG's KO's to GY Ultraterrains. Most likely due to the tread pattern tho. They're pretty aggressive for an AT

I know it's too early, but how do we think these will compare to Ridge Grapplers? They seem to have a slightly more aggressive tread pattern, but a 50k warranty compared to nothing for RGs.

I'm looking hard at these and I need new tires in the next month or so.

Too early, but I'll eventually know since I had RGs in the past.

Right now, these ride like the RGs did, a bit stiff. Which I was disappointed by since the previous Mickey Thompsons I had were D load and they felt pretty compliant and soft.

These are slightly lighter than the RGs but I cant really tell differences with the Tundra as much since its got plenty of torque.

The big thing will be noise. My RGs got loud at about 25k miles, noticeably so, to the point it was distracting. Right off the bat, the Baja AT is quieter, but I think thats because they utilize the little saw tooth design between the threads. I've seen this more and more on newer tires, it appears to work by causing the sound waves to cancel themselves out by reflecting it, like a chambered muffler. The Ridge Grapplers probably just need an update to the design.

I've run a ton of brands and at this time I feel like Cooper/Mickey Thompson and Nitto have been the best brands Ive ran. Cant really go wrong with either. I was also considering the RGs but went this route due to rain and occasional snow. The Baja ATs have more sipes and are labeled with the snowflake so I wont have to deal with highway patrol getting upset when Im out by Mt. Hood in the winter.

Anyone looking at these and wanting a 35", get the 35x12.5s since theyre D load and still have the snowflake badge.

Pulled the trigger on some 295/70/18s.

Initial impressions coming from the stock Michelins:
    • Pictures don't do them justice, they look damn good.
    • The 295s DO rub at full lock and under power (i.e. not at idle), but just barely. If I back off just a hair from full lock they're good. Truck is stock, no suspension mods at all.
    • With the Michelins I felt glued to the road and felt every contour of the road. I get a slight floating feel on these relative to the Michelins, but not so much that I feel concerned.
    • Rolling resistance is noticable, I'd say about half of what I feel going from 89 to 93 octane
    • I can hear them if I'm out of the gas (pro exhaust) and the radio is off. Otherwise, can't hear them.
Ride is to be determined. I have a slight to moderate vibration between 50 and 60 which I'm assuming is a problem with the tire shop. They road force balance, but mistakes happen. I'm going back tomorrow to get them rebalanced to see if that fixes it.

It's weird, straight and smooth and they don't vibrate. Hit a bump or take a turn and the vibration starts (I.e. take the turn, straighten up, then vibration starts). It can range from barely noticable to you can feel it in the seat. Only between 50-60. I'm pretty confused on this one as there was never a hint of vibration from the Michelins.

    UPDATE*

Two of the tires were so out of round that the shop could not get them balanced on the road force machine. They put them on the back and I'll have replacements in a couple days. I'm pretty pissed the shop let them go out the door that bad to begin with, but that's another issue.

The important issue for this thread is that 2/4 tires could not be balanced. That's not a good look for Mickey Thompson and I'm a bit concerned. I get that things happen, but 2/4 seems like a major QC problem. I'll update further once I get the replacements.

Apologies for potato quality pictures, I'll get better ones soon.

Thanks for the good info in this thread.

I’m debating these or Falkens for my my pro when it arrives this month. I know - I should probably stick with the stock tires a bit - but what can I say…this place has made me a truck snob.

I gotta say I like the looks of these - biggest concern is gonna be handling in rain/water - gotta think the Falkens have an edge there.

I also expect a stiffer ride out of these - but wonder if it will as noticeable with the Fox set up on the Pro. Given my usage is a weekend warrior type - I kind of lean this way. Daily driving it might be the opposite - comfort over looks kinda thing.

Well, I'm still waiting on replacement tires (2) from Mickey Thompson (supposed to be here tomorrow) but I'm having the same problem with the "good" tires that were moved to the front.

Tire shop (listed on MTs website as one of their dealers) is telling me the tires are poorly constructed and even the good ones were difficult to balance.

This is going to sound like BS, but after they rotated them around I'm getting a bit more road noise. I'll post a video for reference.

They're telling me these tires are just going to vibrate like this because of their construction. This is a reputable shop with a lot of good reviews, but sounds fishy to me. At this point I'm going to involve MT as well.

Yea - I’d involve the manufacturer at this point.

At minimum- I think they owe you an entire set as replacement and toss in $100 for your inconvenience and a courtesy alignment.

Regarding the shop - they very well might be correct in their assessment of the tire and issues, and might be as honest as the day is long and highly skilled - but that said If they felt like this before installing the tires - why not say something?!?

Look - everyone involved is an adult. If they say “you know - your $$ - but I’ve had some complaints/concerns over those” - you went in eyes wide open and they did their part up front. But a shop that sells you a product - then when you experience an issue after purchase and mentions the problems is just as complicit as the manufacturer to me.

In a perfect world - shops would say “no thanks - we won’t sell that model/brand…don’t like them”. With a few manufacturers controlling the market - that’s unlikely to happen - tell them you won’t “offer” a model and they say fine - you no longer offer ANY of our brands. So as a shop all you can do is not push things you don’t support and caution customers expressing an interest in a product. If customer rejects your advice - it’s on them. Kinda like extended warranties - there are times/products I’ve had them pushed more aggressively at me and with good reason. Sell enough of something and you know a bit about it.

Not to defend MT since way back they have made some dogs but, we are asking a lot from tire manufactures to basically give us an off road / harsh condition tire that rides as nice as a street tire.
Personally, I don't think the level of technology is there yet. It's about trade offs until new materials and assembly techniques are developed.
I'm still waiting for a solid tire with no required air pressure, something like the Sumo spring only a tire.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting makers should “give us everything in one” package here.

But a tire that is able to be consistently balanced with no major issues or QC concerns isn’t asking for everything- it’s asking for makers to meet minimum quality/safety standards before rushing a product to market in an effort to “one up” the competition.

Regarding the shop: this is the first set of these they've installed. That said, this is the Cooper Armor Tech carcass, which gets outstanding reviews, with a different tread pattern on it.

Ok - so I’d then consider the source/depth of knowledge experience on the product they are complaining about.

This was the 1st they did - ok, now if they had a dozen sets done since yours and a majority had issues - then it’s trial/error.

Guessing though that’s not the case - and the shop now decides these are a PIA to work with based on yours alone.

Any manufacturer can have defects/quality issues. Sometimes the issue isn’t the manufacturer but the installer. Worse yet - sometimes it’s just a small combination of both and made worse by a tech bad mouthing the brand.

You have no idea how many times I heard from techs about how “such and such is superior” and “brand x is crap” - usually a change from in packaging shut them up (saving a bag from their preferred source and putting the disliked part makers product in the old bag). Occasionally I’d clue them in to shut the crying up and show them invoices to prove what I did - others have no idea to this day.

It’s the industry as a whole. Too many people buy the advertising and ignore the fact that a few companies make everything- including selling under different names/brands and price points.

Eyeing these in 35x12.5r18 or the upgrading the existing BFG KO2s to 35’s instead of 33s. I’m impressed these KO2s are at 55k miles and still have 7/32 on the rears and 5/32 on front

I’ve ordered 295/70 KO2s but these are the backups if the BFGs can’t be found.
Physically seen/touched 315/70 r17s of the Mickeys and man they are an aggressive tire. Spacing between lugs is almost a MT instead of a AT. Definitely a contender for best looking sidewall vs KO2 in an AT tire. DEEP TREAD
But HEAVY. good grief. About 5-6lbs heavier than falkens which are some of the heaviest in the AT market.
    3 peak is a plus.
