Someone on another thread pointed out these new LED taillights and I decided to give them a look. A relatively newcomer to the Tundra aftermarket light vendor, but it looked interesting. Here are my thoughts based on my experience.

    Vendor: HIREV Sports https://www.hirevsports.com/

Lights: HRS 2014-20 Toyota Tundra LED Tails Lights

    URL: https://www.hirevsports.com/collections/tundra/products/hrs-2014-20-toyota-tundra-led-tails-lights

Ordering Process: The ordering process was extremely easy.

Shipping: I was actually kind of shocked that I received a shipment notification email just a few hours after placing my order. I ordered on a Wednesday and it was at my door on Friday.

First Impression: The lights were well protected in a sturdy box. I thought the build quality was good. I've been running the Spyder LED taillights for a while now and thought the HRS lights were slightly better build quality. The fit on the truck was also good.

Installation: The installation was super, super easy. These lights are truly plug and play. Simply remove the old lights, unplug the 3 wires and plug the truck harness wires into the new light. There is no way of messing this up. Unlike the Spyder lights that require the re-use of the OEM backup light and light sockets, the HRS light does not. All lights are built in and is truly plug and play.

Special Features: You have the option for sequential turn signals upon the order proses. The sequential is a bit unique in that the turn signal is an amber strip of LEDs that wrap around to the side of the light fixture. When the turn signal is activated, the whole strip turns on, however, the sequential movement is a higher intensity of light that moves from the inside to the outside of the strip ending with a bright "ping" type affect on the outer edge of the light assembly. There is also a brief animi nation affect when the lights are first turned on that lasts about 2-3 seconds.

Overall Impression: I was pleasantly surprised with these lights and I like them a lot. I think they are a true contender for aftermarket taillights and are offered at a decent price point. My initial only suggestion for improvement would be to wrap the wires in a wire mesh loom, but this is simply a personal preference I have for wiring.

Note: The pics below with side by side comparison shots are with the Spyder aftermarket lights and not OEM.

Thanks for a great write up. I like the look of them and have been considering trying them out. For the sequential turn signal, you mentioned that is an option, did you go with it? I am thinking that is what the last couple pictures are trying to show but I wasn't sure.

Yes, I went with the sequential turn signals. You are correct that since I could not upload a video, I attempted to convey the turn signal in the last 2 pictures. The second to last is the snapshot of when the turn signal turns on. The last picture is the final "ping" affect when the bright intensity reaches the outer end.

Reading the reviews on their web site and the responses by HIREV Sports, it appears that they are pleased with the response from the Tundra world and are planning other products for the Tundra. I would suggest contacting them and voicing your input to encourage them.

BayRunner - great write up and thank you. Do you happen to have a side pic of these lights when they are off. I’m trying to see what the look like from the different angles on “CBD” on the MGM paint. Also did you happen to have LED bulbs installed in your front headlights? I know the tundras rear tail lights will hyperflash when changing fronts signals to LED, wanted to see if I would have an issue with these if I did go with them. I know on their own they are fine but combo them with front LEDs not so sure. Thanks

I wish folks would stop using the dot matrix type diode sections.
Makes the lights look cheap. They have the really nice curved diodes with no hot spots and then right in the middle of them have 6 individual diodes.

Awesome job! It's great seeing these compared to one of the popular aftermarket tail lights as well. Hope these last you a good long while!

I use the OEM LED headlights. However, since the turn signals in these taillights are sequential, these use a built in LED controller. Thus no hyper flash. Hyper flash is typically caused when changing out the bulbs thus needing a capacitor.

They really do look good on the MGM, thanks for pics. It’s just a tundra thing I believe. I tried doing the spyders in the rear but because I changed the front turn signals to LEDs from VLEDs, the rear spyders hyperflashed. Makes me nervous to order these up and have same issue.

How bright are the reverse lights? I'm guessing you go the clear version.

All of the lighting is very bright. The reverse lighting is brighter that what I had which was LED bulbs.

Yea, I got the clear lenses for safety reasons. I wanted to make sure the red lighting is as visible as possible.

Would it be possible to upload a video of the full functions of these tail lights on YouTube or Instagram with a link? I would really appreciate it if you could. You would be the first person to have a video of these tail lights anywhere. If that is not a possibility my questions then are:
•Is the running light and the brake light the same lights?
•Is there a significant noticeable difference between the park light and the brake light when applied?
•Is the chrome sections on the housing the reverse lights?
•Is the turn signal bright and noticeable in the day from a distance?

I went with BRB(Black Lens). The lights are beautiful. They are very bright at night and visibility to other drivers will not be an issue. I have zero complaints on the functionality and looks of the light themselves. The damages to the lights on the other hand is a bit annoying. They've been quick with the responses and shipping out the replacement tail light. I'm curious to what they will do now knowing the replacement had the same defect. I'm not sure if the pictures show it clearly but it's at the same location. The problem doesn't seem to be the padding inside and the the box wasn't crushed or anything. I'm leaning towards they just received a bad batch but they should be inspecting them before shipping.

hmmm I wonder if they'll discount the imperfect batch, my truck is dirty half of the time, I don't mind that imperfection.

They won’t I already asked them, I sent another email for an update on the new batch but no reply yet. But I was told by them that they are releasing a video showing how to fix the issue and it not noticeable so that’s why they aren’t discounting them.
