I'm putting in a new head unit that's capable of supporting 1280x720 video. I've learned that the OEM backup camera is somewhat limited: lower resolution and has fixed 'guide' lines that cannot be disabled.

Any convenient way to upgrade it? I'd like to stick with the OEM appearance if possible, the tailgate handle itself looks fine and the camera integration is stealth.

Thinking of buying something like this and popping the camera out and replacing the stock unit. But perhaps I'm wasting my money/time if I can't make it fit.

Found a video where a guy pulls out the camera only and replaces it. But... doesn't say what part he used. (Perhaps OEM again?)
Maybe I'll take mine apart and measure it. Seems like a piece of cake.

If anyone already has this information, I'd appreciate it.

Most of those cheap Amazon backup cameras are junk. I personally went through 4 of the Natika ones before I finally gave up and left it as is.

It won’t work on kenwood/jvc unit. It uses a different technology than the AHD camera found abundant on Amazon, like joying, dasaita, etc. I’ve tried it on my jvc 10” radio. It will not show up. You’ll get no signal message. You have to use the kenwood hd camera if you want it to work with the radio. I’m not about to shell out $200 for a backup camera that i spend less than 30 seconds using. Now if you have an android radio, then those adh cameras work great with it. I have it on the wife’s rav4. Picture is clear night or day.

Think I'm gonna try my luck with this one. It's 12V and 800 TV Line so it's damn sure gonna be a better pic than stock. I'm hoping it'll pop out of the older style and into my newer style housing.

Give it ago and report back. Good thing bout Amazon is you can return it easily.

The guy in the video mentions getting a sony camera off Ebay as the replacement for the oem one.

Little bit of an older thread. Anyone have a link to a OEM style camera that will fit in a 2013 handle but gives AHD quality? I have a Joying 11.6 radio and the factory camera is just very pixelated.

    Thought I updated this....

The 800 TVL camera sucked. Worse than my OEM. Ripped it out and popped in my OEM which is what I have today. I feel like once you upgrade the screen/head unit, it's painfully obvious the stock cameras have piss poor res. The crap OEM screen hides it.
