Has anyone installed an after market back up camera? Mine 09 tundra doesn't have a back up camera but I really need one. I have an pioneer radio that can have one hooked up to it. For the life of me I can't tell how close or far away the car behind me is when I'm backing up into a parking space. Got a leveling kit, 33"s, and a tool box and it's impossible

    I bought this :
TOYOTA Tundra Backup Camera (2007-2013) with Tailgate Handle for Universal Monitors (RCA)

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BHHDA06/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have an aftermarket HU as well. This camera has an RCA output, so it connects right to your stereo if you have an RCA video input.

Video quality is very good. The July 21 customer review on Amazon is from me, showing a picture of it at night. BUT, keep in mind I have a couple of LED lights mounted in my bumper.

You're welcome. I looked quite a bit at my options and found that this one was best suited to me.

I thought I might make my own mount in my existing tailgate handle, but decided to go for this really easy option.

I'm glad this is up... I have the rear view wire beneath my truck, but can't find where it leads to. It's not in the headliner, could it be behind the dash somewhere

Damn good question. I researched that when I put mine in. Apparently it depends on the year and trim level. Some go to the overhead console to support the rear view mirror with monitor, some go behind the dash and some stop in the passenger side A pillar. I have the wires and connector at the rear bumper, but gave up on finding where it went. It took way less time to run new wires than it was taking to trace out the "pre-wired" wiring location.

Crap, thats WAY better than my stock 2013. Great quality and you have the guide bars. My picture quality is no where near as good and dose not have the guide bars. I might have to look into replacing mine.

looks like the wires at the camera were NOT CONNECTED in the Amazon pic of this unit. Im wondering if I could just shorten the camera wires and just use the new camera, get the nicer picture quality and guid lines, and keep my existing wiring?

Did you replace your stock camera or run this as a completely new camera install?

I bought the same camera and pulled my tailgate cover. I have a factory camera that I wanted to replace (to get the guide lines and better resolution) with the one you installed. All of the wiring is completely different. Looks like I may have run all of the new wires to the front dash. Was hoping to use existing wiring.

Mine didn't come with the OEM camera, so it was an new installation. I did have the pre-wired connector in the rear, but it was much easier, for me anyway, to just run new wiring as opposed to tracing the existing.

Im thinking the same thing. That camera picture quality and the guide lines will be worth the effort. Im assuming that you ran under the truck and found a way through the cab some place up towards the front?

I ran it to the engine compartment. On the passenger side there is a boot in the firewall that you can use to put cables through. There's one on the driver side too. It's kind of a bitch, if I was to do it again I think I would look at the rubber plugs under the floorboards to find a way inside and go under the door sills to the front.

I think that I will wait on running the camera wire till I get my new bumpers. Might run 5" rear LED light bars under my back bumper vs tying them into my back up lights so I can run the lights and camera wire all at the same time.

There is a back up camera wire in the headliner at the upper console near the front. I know I didn't order my truck with back up camera so the got one from Toyota accessories and installed it. It comes wit handle camera monitor and console cover and two small harnesses.

Go OEM whenever you can. I have an aftermarket rear view mirror that shows the monitor when you back up and although the quality is decent, the camera itself has failed in just over a years time. The video quality of OEM might not be a clear/sharp, but I'm pretty confident that their components would least at least 6-7yrs without failing.

Do you happen to know where to find this info? I have a 2011 Crewmax sr5. I'm hoping it's in the overhead console. I will probably have to check first before I order, I found the hookup near the tire.

6 hex screws hold the center console portion to the ceiling.
    Remove them.
    Center console will slowly lower
    Disconnect the electrical harnesses
    Bingo, it’s down
Look immediately above the rear view mirror Tucked in, and you will see the female harness

Thanks, I'll take a look tomorrow. I'd like to install it to the mirror (I'd have to purchase one still)
Rearsight backup camera appears to have a complete kit, just didnt see any prices

What he said, like I said,I stopped looking and ran a new wire in about 30 minutes.

If it came down to that I could probably manage that, I would be more confident in completing the installation if It was under the overhead compartments lol

    Not nearly enough room here!
After much research and reading, I bought a Autovox M1 Camera from Amazon for $50. I've had it in my 2010 for a couple years and no issues.

You say you have these for sale, are they OEM, or just plug and play with the OEM plug in the headliner? Also, how much? :)

I finally got around to removing the overhead compartments, at the front( closest to the windshield) there was a black harness running horizontally to the windshield. Does anyone know if that is the one for the rearview mirror camera or for something else. Thanks

Just took a pic, you can see the black harness to the right, I thought there was a white one in the empty space to the left that was for the camera in the mirror
